The 9th Annual Smart Tennis Sports Psychology Workshops Trained Players of Many Abilities the Mental Game

Held at the Sutton Tennis Academy in Sutton, Surrey, England

For the 9th year, Dr. John F. Murray and colleagues (Paul Barton of London Tennis assisted this year) helped tennis players outside of London and near Wimbledon, England with their mental games on the Friday and Saturday before the start of the Wimbledon Championships.

Players who attended ranged from relative beginners to professional level players, but the level of play did not matter. Each player attended to improve their minds, to improve their attitudes, and to learn the 8 major keys to mental success in this most challenging of sports.

Following introductions and an informative power-point presentation of key mental skills, players were shown some key strategies and then sent down to the indoor courts to warm-up and practice improving their mental games. Other activities included a group guided imagery/relaxation session, discussions, quotes from players on the tour, questions and answers, and a mini-tournament toward the end of the day. Next year promises to be even better, and the Sutton Tennis Academy has already agreed to sponsor the 10th Annual Smart Tennis Sports Psychology workshops right before the Summer Olympic Games in London.

Although it is impossible to summarize all that went on in one newsletter or videos, I have prepared for you 4 videos that are random snippets from some of the hitting, competing, and summarizing that took place last week. You will also notice one very special player, Camila Giorgi from Italy, who qualified for Wimbledon and is shown in the videos practicing her powerful groundstrokes and volleys. Giorgi was visiting Sutton with coaches during the workshops. Her powerful strokes were so beautiful that we had to include her for your enjoyment! She is one of the rising young starts in pro tennis.
