Delineate Small Grants Program


Accessible Arts, in association with Ageing, Disability and Home Care, is inviting applications to the ‘Delineate’ small grants program for arts projects that celebrate International Day of People with a Disability on 3 December 2011. Grants of $3,000 will be awarded to six recipients, two in each of the categories of Independent Artists, Regional NSW and Western Sydney.  Art forms include Dance, Music, Theatre, Visual Arts, Literature, Hybrid/ Interdisciplinary Arts and Community Arts.This small grants program is an initiative within the Don’t DIS my ABILITY campaign which involves over 100 events held throughout November and December each year to celebrate the diversity and ability of people with a disability.

Waverley Artist in Residency Program
The Waverley Council Artist-in-Residence Program provides artists with three rent-free, non-residential unfurnished studios for six-month terms for artists to work in. The aim of the Artist-in-Residence Program is to increase the community’s participation in the arts and to foster collaboration developing the creative industries. During the residency, artists are provided with professional development opportunities to work with Waverley Council community and cultural services. Artist-led projects need to involve the active participation of Waverley residents.

Eutick Memorial Still Life Award


Now in its fifth year this prestigious painting prize is open to all artists in Australia to submit still life paintings. Artists may enter up to two paintings completed in the last 12 months. The Eutick Memorial Still Life Award is worth $15,000 and entries selected for exhibition will be displayed at Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery from 19 November 2011 to 14 January 2012.

John Marsden Prize for Young Australian Writers
Young writers under the age of 24 are urged to enter the competition to share in $5,500 in prize money and have the opportunity to be published online and in the December issue of Voiceworks, Express Media’s literary quarterly. The first place winner of the Short Story prize will receive $3000 (18-24) and the winner of the poetry prize wins $1500 (18-24). First place winners of both the Poetry and the Short story prize (under 18) receive $500 each.  The prize is facilitated by Express Media and generously funded by celebrated author John Marsden, author of the Tomorrow When the War Began series.

The Mortimore Prize 2011
The Mortimore Prize in its 6 year history has grown to become Australia's leading Realism art prize. This year’s competition is offering $42,000 in prize money in a variety of sections including portraiture, landscape, drawing and many others. Entries are currently being invited and will close 1 September. Winners will be announced at an opening night function at St. Brigid’s Church Hall in Dubbo on 30 September before the show tours to 8 additional locations.

Australia Council for the Arts Grants – Artstart


The ArtStart program provides financial assistance to recent creative arts graduates who are committed to establishing a career as a professional artist. Graduates who plan to earn an income, start a small arts business or gain employment as a professional artist in the visual arts, hybrid and media arts, performing arts, literature or as a community cultural development artist may .  Grants of up to $10,000 are provided to fund business and career strategies which include services, resources, skills development and equipment that help graduate artists to build an income-generating career in the arts practice they have studied.

Wesfarmers Indigenous Arts Leadership Program
The aim of the Indigenous Arts Leadership program is to build and connect people, working in Country and at the National Gallery of Australia, and to promote and share knowledge and experiences to strengthen work practices and provide professional support. The program provides an opportunity for up to 10 Indigenous Australians to travel to the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra and learn about the visual arts and museum sector over 10 days.

Ian Potter Cultural Trust


The Ian Potter Cultural Trust was established in 1993 by The Ian Potter Foundation to encourage and support the diversity and excellence of emerging Australian artists.  The Trust offers grants of up to $7,000 to assist early career artists of exceptional talent to undertake professional development, usually overseas.  The Trust funds nationally, and across the spectrum of the Arts from visual arts to performing arts and music to literature, spanning traditional art forms right through to experimental mediums.

Besen Family Foundation Arts and Culture Grants
Grants of up to $10,000 will be given for Arts and Culture projects for not-for-profit organisations throughout Australia.  The foundation will support projects both in Performing and Visual Arts. Preference will be given to projects that are innovative and challenging.  Individuals wishing to make an application for a grant from the foundation are required to make submissions in partnership with a not-for-profit organisation. The organisation will then recommend the project to the foundation.
Funding is available, in addition to the types of grants listed under general support, for acquisitions, catalogues, commissions, exhibitions, publications and symposia.

Indigenous Ceramic Art Award

The ICAA was developed by Shepparton Art Gallery to support Indigenous ceramic artists and acknowledge the special industry of ceramic art practice. The awards encourage and stimulate excellence in this sphere, providing cultural exchange opportunities for Indigenous artists from around Australia and regional Victoria. This biennale award exhibition surveys current Indigenous ceramic art practice, demonstrates current developments in the field including contemporary and traditional works. The Indigenous Ceramic Art Award is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Artists living in Australia or the Torres Strait. Shortlisted artists are required to complete a Confirmation on Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Form upon notification of preselection.

ABC’s HEYWIRE Competition
The HEYWIRE competition is now open to people aged 16 - 22, to submit a story about life in Australia outside the major cities.  Your story can be created in any form of media: text, video, photography or audio. And if you are selected as one of our winners (roughly 40) your story will be featured on ABC Local Radio, ABC Radio National, triple j and abc.net.au.  And you'll also score an all-expenses-paid trip to the Heywire Youth Issues Forum in Canberra in February 2012.

Understanding Boundaries Workshop
This will provide a balance in the workplace between being a manager/co-ordinator, service worker or volunteer and being a friend to the client, staff or volunteer.  The training is also for management committees on dealing with staff/clients. Facilitated by Roger McFarlane.
