News and Events
  February 2011
Dear Subscriber,

February is shaping up to be an entertaining month, especially if music is your scene.  There are lots of events happening in the region with both Australian and International Musicians.  Would you like to take in some Italian music?  Well, travel to Barham and listen to guitarist Massimo Scattolin from Italy.

What about jazz?  Swing to Echuca and hear James Morrison belt out a tune or two in the Riverboats Jazz Food & Wine Festival.   And if you live in Darlington Point, Hay or Deniliquin you’re in luck, you will have the chance to listen to guitarist Andrew Veivers evoking mesmerising sounds from his Spanish guitar.

Also just a reminder that the Country Arts Support Program (CASP) applications close on 11 February 2011.  This is an annual small grants program that supports community cultural development in regional NSW.  If you have an idea for an artistic workshop or event in your area please contact the office and have a chat with Alyce.

To see all that is happening in February scroll down and or visit  our Events Calendar.
Keep an eye out for Fund It!, our monthly funding e-bulletin that will arrive in your inbox mid-month. It lists some highlights from our online Funding Database, an excellent resource for artists and community organisations.

Sculptures will then be permanently exhibited on the Backroads Trail.  The Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal and the Barham Club are also strong supporters of the competition. The Backroads Trail is an initiative of the Caldwell, Bunnaloo and Womboota communities supported by the Murray and Wakool Shire Councils, to develop a driving route that will showcase the Backroads Region's outstanding nature, food and wine, local history and culture.  The deadline for the submission of entry forms for the Backroads Trail Farmgate Sculpture Competition has been extended from the 14th January until the 31st January 2011.

State Library of NSW  Travelling Exhibition  ‘One Hundred Years’

21 February – 9 March 2011

Berrigan Shire Library
This display celebrates the Mitchell Library’s first century. The Mitchell Library opened on 9th March 1910, and for the first time, it was possible to research the history of Australia and the Pacific through access to the original records. David Scott Mitchell’s 1907 bequest of books, manuscripts, maps and pictures, the most comprehensive collection of its type in the world, provided Australia, in one fell swoop, with its first major research library. No other act of philanthropy in Australia has performed such a cultural coup. The travelling exhibition features 25 items illustrated on the display panels, which were chosen because they each tell a remarkable story about an aspect of Australian or Pacific life and show the range and depth of the Mitchell Library’s holdings.
