Country Arts Support Program (CASP)
Applications for 2010 are now open!
CASP provides small grants to arts and community organisations and local arts councils in regional NSW for short term, locally initiated projects. The aims of the program are:
• to assist locally determined cultural activities;
• to increase opportunities for regionally based groups to access a diverse range of arts programs;
• to enable communities to explore and express their cultural identities;
• to encourage communities to work together to develop and participate in cultural experiences;
• to bring social and economic benefits to the community through training, employment and promotional activities; and
• leads to greater awareness and appreciation of cultural diversity in rural and regional New South Wales.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  In 2009 Balranald Community Arts & Crafts Inc received CASP funding to host “What to do with Paper and Glue”. A four day youth workshop with tutor Paul Stafford culminating in a puppetry performance.

Grant: Contemporary Music Touring Program
Dept of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts Category: Arts & Culture
Funding: Max per grant: $10,000
Purpose: To provide funding support for touring activities to the contemporary music sector.
Overview: The Program prioritises regional and remote area touring, which may include the movement of artists to, from or around those regions. It aims to increase access to contemporary music for audiences in regional and remote areas. The program recognises the added expense involved in touring music to remote communities, so additional assistance can be sought through TRAX (Touring Remote Areas).All applicants are now required to provide the original completed and signed application form, one copy of each of any supporting materials and a copy on CD or memory stick if the application is mailed in. Emailed applications should be sent to music.touring@environment.gov.au, including a signed and scanned declaration page. The Power of One Australian Hero Award
Penguin Books Australia Category: Arts & Culture Funding: A prize of $50,000 will be presented by Bryce Courtenay to the winner of the The Power of One Australian Hero Award to assist that person to continue their work in the community. Purpose: To celebrate people who are dedicated to helping others in our community. Overview: The Power of One Australian Hero Award rewards and recognises one special person whose commitment to the greater good is an inspiration to those around them. A prize of $50,000 will be presented by Bryce Courtenay to the winner of The Power of One Australian Hero Award to assist that person to continue their work in the community. This annual award is a joint initiative between Bryce Courtenay and Penguin Books Australia.
To nominate:
• Tell us about any person who you know in the community who has worked consistently for more than 3 years in the service of others.
• This person may be a volunteer or they may work in the community in a paid capacity.
• Your hero may be someone who has helped individuals, families or community groups, animals or the environment within Australia.

Museums and Galleries NSW 2010 Mentorship Program - Applications now Open!
Applications for the M&G NSW 2010 Mentorship program are now open. For 2010, two open museum mentorships and two open gallery mentorships will be offered. M&G NSW has also compiled a shortlist of suggestions for host venues to assist applicants. The Mentorship Program
for museums and galleries is open to paid staff from regional museums and galleries in NSW and is suitable for mid-level or emerging personnel. It is managed by M&G NSW and funded by Arts NSW for focus area placements which will expand their professional skills and knowledge.

Small Grants for Small Rural Communities                                                                                   
A small grants program for small rural Australian communities will offer about $850,000 a year in grants to benefit people in rural and remote communities. Not-for-profit Organisations can apply for projects and activities that offer clear public benefit for communities living in small rural and remote locations in Australia, contributing to their development in social and community welfare, economic, environmental, health, education or cultural areas. Applications from communities with a population of 10,000 or less will receive priority. Grants will be made in amounts up to $5,000. To be eligible, projects must be for a charitable purpose (benefit the whole community). The encouragement or advancement of sport or recreation or social activities are not considered a charitable activity by the Australian Taxation Office. Applications from sporting organisations need to benefit the wider community and should clearly indicate which other local organisations are involved. Currently, preference will be given to projects that support:
•    Drought affected areas (Exceptional Circumstances Classified)
•    Community Infrastructure
•    Resettlement of Immigrants in rural Australia.
•    Community Development involving Disadvantaged Children or Young People

CIWEM’s Environmental Photographer of the Year 2010                                                                                                                                         This is a serious competition that seeks to celebrate photographers who use their ability to raise awareness of environmental and social issues. It is open to all professional and amateur international photographers of any ages and encourages entries that are contemporary, creative, experimental, resonant, original and beautiful. The 2010 categories are:

The Natural World
Quality of Life
Innovation in the Environment (New)
The Underwater World (New)
A View From the Western World (New)
CIWEM’s Young Environmental Photographer of the Year (Under 16 & Under 21)
The judging panel is made up of some of the most respected environmental photographers in the industry, including Gary Braasch, winner of the Ansel Adams Award for Conservation Photography, as well as senior environmentalists. Individual pieces of work will be judged on impact, creativity, composition, originality and technical abilities. Winners receive cash prizes, and all winning and highly commended entries are displayed in the international Environmental Photographer of the Year exhibitions.
