News and Events
August 2010
Dear Subscriber,

Well winter has truly set in with chilly mornings upon us, we hope you can brave the cold and make time to enjoy one of the performances by the Berrigan Amateur Drama Society.  There will be five performances of “Act your Age” a play to be enjoyed by all the family.

It was an exciting time having the St Kilda Film Festival tour our region late July.  Deniliquin, Balranald and Moulamein hosted the 15 short films. Moulamein had the largest crowd of attendance with people of all ages enjoying immensely the diverse range of films.  The film festival was funded by the St Kilda Film Festival and South West Arts.

Congratulations to the Deniliquin Ute Muster taking out the best festival award in regional New South Wales.   The Deniliquin ‘Play on the Plains’ Festival and the World Record Ute Muster took out the "Festival and Events” category at the prestigious Inland Tourism Awards, held in Temora.  Muster board chairperson Kathy Simpson said the award was ‘reflective of the community’s commitment to the Muster’.

Also isn’t it fantastic to see our local school children doing well with their visual arts.  Four Deniliquin students, Forbes Lindeman, Najem Aldorki, Vince Duffy-Richards and Remy Parsons have had their work selected to be shown in the Headspace 10 exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra September 9 until November 7.  Well done!

Keep an eye out for Fund It!, our monthly funding e-bulletin that will arrive in your inbox mid-month. It lists some highlights from our online Funding Database, an excellent resource for artists and community organisations.

Enjoy your arts

On 4 July, many people attended the Wetland, Wine and Cheese day at Restdown Winery, Barham. Families immersed themselves in the sights and sounds of the Australian bush.   The Restdown Wetland had been filled with water so the frogs were singing and the ducks had gathered, numerous people came to celebrate an afternoon of walking, wine and cheese tasting.

The St Kilda Film Festival was a huge success for Moulamein, Deniliquin and Balranald.  Many people attended the entertaining screenings of the films.  The film festival was funded by the St Kilda Film Festival and South West Arts.

Our Regional Arts Development Officer Alyce Fisher officially opening the Bald Archy Prize Exhibition.  Created in 1994 as a spoof of that more serious competition, the Bald Archy Prize provides artists of all styles and standards with a genuine opportunity, ranging from the hilarious to the bizarrely vulgar, to create portrait paintings of humour, dark satire, light comedy or caricature.

Often animals are used as mascots and pets, or as symbols on badges and flags. This exhibition also looks at those unwelcome animals, such as insects, rats, and wild creatures, which make life in the field even more difficult and dangerous.  Visitors of all ages will enjoy the exhibitions fascinating and moving stories.
