A Cappella Man Band Suade entertained Deni
 

South West Music in partnership with South West Arts received Arts NSW funding through the Regional Conservatorium Association, to hold a series of concerts in 2011.  The A Cappella Man Band Suade appeared at the Deniliquin High School on Friday 2 September 2011.  Suade with their smooth harmonies and raucousness entertained a crowded venue with every audience member wanting them to return soon.

Sculptures of the Long Paddock - EOI



The Long Paddock – Cobb Highway touring route is a tourism initiative of five councils, Murray Shire, Deniliquin Shire, Conargo Shire, Hay Shire and Central Darling Shire.  The Long Paddock has recently received funding through the Riverina Red Gums Regional Economic and Community Development Fund from the NSW Government to install four additional public artworks in the Murray, Deniliquin and Conargo shires.  The sculptures will serve as a tribute to the important contribution the timber industry made to the region.  All relevant information, including the Artist Brief, site images and maps can be found on www.thelongpaddock.com.au or contact Alison McLean Project Manager 02 6993 8110

Growing Our Place Project
South West Arts are very excited to announce two new commissioning opportunities as part of the ‘Growing Our Place’ Public Arts Project in partnership with member local government bodies and Arts NSW.  `Growing Our Place' is an internal works program that re-allocates  existing local government funds dedicated for use on functional items towards public arts development. The underlying strategy of this project is to build capacity for both practising artists within the SW and local government agencies, ensuring that the development of public spaces within LGA's responds to community needs, is unique and builds upon a sense of local & regional distinctiveness for the communities located within SW NSW.  The Berrigan Shire Council in partnership with South West Arts Inc. is seeking Expressions of Interest from artists to design and create a contemporary mosaic installation to be located at the Berrigan Apex Park. The Commission Budget is $2,500 and EOI’s from interested artists will be received until 5pm Wednesday 12th October 2011.  The Conargo Shire Council in partnership with South West Arts Inc. is seeking Expressions of Interest from artists to design and create a public artwork which will act as cladding on the existing public amenities block within Conargo Recreational Reserve. Commission budget is $10,000 and EOI’s from interested artists will be received until 5pm Friday 28th October 2011.  Further details on site characteristics, the commissioner’s requirements, budget and timeframes may be found inside the respective project briefs on the South West Arts website.

ABC Open Upcoming Workshops - The moment behind the photo

They say a picture tells a thousand words, but often it’s only half the story.  Sometimes the best memories come from recalling the stories behind the photo.  Maybe it’s a story of travel and adventure.  Perhaps the photo brings back memories of sharing special times with a dear friend or loved one.  ABC Open is inviting you to share your stories of the moments behind your favourite photos.   Two workshops will be held November 22 and 23 – 10am to 4pm with a follow up session planned for November 24 in Deniliquin.  Each workshop is limited to five participants.  For further information please contact ABC Open producer Sonya Gee 02 6923 4826 www.abc.net.au/open or South West Arts 03 5881 7749.

Rustica – Art  Exhibition
 

Riverina Artist Catherine Stewart exhibition of an eclectic collection of new works finishes Sunday 2 October.  If you have time visit this most impressive display of artworks by Catherine at the Griffith Regional Art Gallery.  On display will be paintings, mixed media, assemblages and works on paper depicting weathered forms, symbols and rural imagery.  She is inspired by everyday events and scenes in the Riverina which reflect in the beauty and quality of the collection.


Calling Central NSW screen, TV and film professionals
Screen Central NSW and Western Sydney provides the feature film, television dramas/documentaries, TV commercial, music video, corporate film and photographic communities with the essential pre-production resource to plan shoots in the Central NSW and Western Sydney regions.  Screen Central is currently updating their list of screen professionals in the region. These contacts will go onto a database and be accessible via their new website www.screencentral.com.au  Do you have experience, ability or interest in working with production companies that comes to the region to shoot film, TV and screen content?  Or do you run a business that could support screen production in the region or run a venue that could be useful to film and TV makers or do you have skills and experience in Film, TV, commercial directing or producing?

Spirit of the Land Lockhart Festival

The Spirit of the Land Festival Lockhart grew out of the worst drought in Australian history and it took shape to encourage farmers determined to survive living and working on the land to use country ingenuity and create sculptures using old farm machinery, recycled scrap metal and elements of the land.  Visit Lockhart and view the Farm Sculpture Awards, Fine Arts and Indigenous Exhibitions.  Boutique markets and entertainment galore will also be on offer.

Bishop’s Lodge Spring Market

There will be an art exhibition, workshops on poetry and journaling, dance numbers, knitting graffiti and paint wars.  A new brochure promoting the Initiative will also be launched.
