Spring is here and to celebrate this season visit one of the many festivals and markets taking place all over the south west region this month.  The Bald Archy Exhibition is once again touring to Deniliquin and of course the world famous Deni Ute Muster and the Play on the Plains Festival is coming alive again with two days jam packed with entertainment.

A Cappella Man Band Suade to entertain Deni


South West Music in partnership with South West Arts received Arts NSW funding through the Regional Conservatorium Association, to hold a series of concerts in 2011.  The A Cappella Band Suade will be appearing at the Deniliquin High School Friday 2 September 2011 at 7.00pm.  Suade are an award-winning five-part male A Cappella vocal group from Melbourne and have spent the last ten years dazzling audiences all over the country. Smooth harmonies and soulful voices meet raucous entertainment and terrible comedy when the lads hit the stage. Tickets can be purchased from South West Music 5881 4736.  Adults $10, school aged children free.

The Echuca Moama Arts Festival

The Echuca Moama Arts Initiative is very excited to be organising its inaugural arts festival to be held 12- 13 November this year.  Artists, musicians, poets, dancers, puppetry and performance artists will be all participating in this festival.  To be part of this exciting event, please register your interest with the f

Billi’s Backyard Tour
 
‘Billi’s Backyard’ toured to the shires of Conargo, Wakool, Deniliquin and Berrigan.  South West Arts received funding from the Murray Catchment Management Authority which has allowed them to put together an environmentally themed Theatre & Education tour.  The local children were enthralled with the performance about Billi, a nine year old girl, who moves into her new home with her consumer driven mother. She discovers a vibrant vegetable garden in the backyard. Billi learns all about the importance of reusing, recycling and looking after her environment.  The play was written and performed by Theatre on Toast.

The St Kilda Film Festival hits the road taking in 14 destinations Australia-wide with a selection of shorts that includes Festival award winners and stand out favourites.   The St Kilda Film Festival will be touring to only 3 locations in NSW and South West Arts have been fortunate to host the exciting films in Hay, Deniliquin and Balranald.  The film’s chosen for the national showcase offer audiences the opportunity to view some of the most innovative, cutting edge, inspiring and entertaining works from some of Australia’s current crop of emerging filmmakers who are literally taking the world by storm.  As films featured in the St Kilda Film Festival are unclassified, persons under the age of 15 years shall not be admitted to the screenings, unless accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.

The 2011 Bald Archy Exhibition

The Bald Archy Prize has become an icon on the Australian art calendar with a touring exhibition of irreverent comic and satirical images of well-known Australians.  The opening will be held Sunday 4th September at 1.30pm with special guest, the founder of the exhibition Peter Batey attending.  Come along and view the magnificent paintings.

Rustica – Catherine Stewart Exhibition

Rustica is an eclectic collection of new works by emerging artist Catherine Stewart.  This is Catherine’s first solo exhibition at a Regional Art Gallery.  On display will be paintings, mixed media, assemblages and works on paper depicting weathered forms, symbols and rural imagery.  She is inspired by everyday events and scenes in the Riverina which reflect in the beauty and quality of the collection.

Pride and Prejudice the Musical

Golden Rivers Theatre Group will this year bring to life the classic story of ‘Pride and Prejudice’.
Composed by Bernard J Taylor and based on Jane Austin’s classic novel, it is a witty and delightful musical that gives an amusing insight into human nature. Berrigan Lions Canola Festival

The festival provides an opportunity to enjoy the festivities of this outback rural town. It is seen as a time for the locals to reflect on the prosperity that agriculture brings to this outback region.  The locals encourage visitors to join in the celebrations, including the grand parade, joy flights and farm tours.  The festival Features a Vintage Tractor Pull, Super modified lawn mower races, market and a street parade and more.

There is lot’s happening at the Deni library throughout the month of September for all the family.  Mondays and Wednesdays at 3.30 – 4.30pm is ‘Afters Cool’ for school kids.  Children’s Storytime is held Wednesday at 10.00am.  And on Fridays between 10.00am and 4.00pm is the Genealogy Society Open Day.  History week will be held between the 3rd and 11 and on Thursday 22nd pop in for the ‘Between the Sheets Book Group’.  As part of the school holiday activities on Thursday 29 at 2.00pm a Collage Workshop will be held.

Thriving in the Face of Adversity: Continuing to shine in the regions

A day of inspiration and information for regional cultural workers and volunteers.  With something for everyone working across the gallery, museum and cultural development fields from presentations by industry leaders in Cultural Precinct planning, audience development and exhibition design to practical hands-on workshops in 2D and 3D object photography, conservation techniques, Disaster Planning and social media.  This forum offers affordable access to current cultural practice for regional players. The program has been structured to offer practical workshops and give volunteers the opportunity to engage, staff opportunity to learn the bigger picture and managers a forum to network, update skills and develop new ideas.

The ‘Young at Heart – Seniors Film Festival’

Every year, the Young At Heart Short Film Awards showcase the best new Australian short films starring seniors, selected from a national call for submissions. To be eligible, films must be Australian, run less than 20 minutes and feature one or more lead actors over 60 years of age.  The program consists of six short films made by or staring high-status figures from the Australian Film Industry.   Films presented include The Telegram Man staring Jack Thompson and Sigrid Thornton, and Just Dessert staring Wendy Hughes and Colette Manns.

Moulamein Old World Collectables Fair

Millinery Workshop

Spirit of the Land Lockhart Festival

The winner of the Lifestyle Photography Competition will also be announced.
