Next Writing Day: this Saturday (30 April)

_________________________________________________________________

Dear poets,

Just a final reminder about the Writing Day this Saturday.

As usual, we meet at 10:15am at the Premier Inn on the corner of Angel Street in Sheffield. The day finishes at 4pm.

Please bring a poem (and ten copies) for the afternoon workshop – or better still write one up to discuss from the morning session.

Places cost £25 (or £20 unwaged). Pay on the day, by cash or cheque.

It's not essential, but always helpful if you can let us know if you're planning to attend.

Best wishes
from The Poetry Business

The 2011 Michael Marks Awards for Poetry Pamphlets

We're delighted to hear that Simon Armitage's Smith/Doorstop pamphlet, The Motorway Service Station as a Destination in its Own Right, has been shortlisted for the 2011 Michael Marks Award for Poetry Pamphlets.

The judges described the collection as, "Quietly ironised monologues, flashes of startlingly apt imagery, and a dry but never arid sense of humour".

The overall winner of the award will be announced at an event at the British Library on the 13 June. Details of how to book a place here.

Read 'The English Astronaut', a poem from Simon's collection, here.
