Dear poets, readers and friends,

A very happy new year to you all!

We're delighted to announce that 2011 marks the 25th anniversary of The Poetry Business, and we intend to celebrate!

The Poetry Business began life in 1986, set up with the help of an Enterprise Allowance and Huddersfield Polytechnic's photocopier; and is now, in its silver year, what Andrew Motion called "one of the most vital and vitalising literary organisations in the country".

We publish books, pamphlets and audio under the Smith/Doorstop imprint; we run The North magazine; our international Book & Pamphlet Competition is regarded as one of the most prestigious of its kind; our Writing Days, Writing School and residential courses are considered the benchmark in creative writing teaching provision; and our poets have won or been shortlisted for almost every major literary prize.

In 2011, we will be celebrating our 25th anniversary with a year-long, UK-wide, program of readings, workshops, special events and talks. There will also be a special Smith/Doorstop anthology, a new range of ebooks and audio collection, and much more.

To start us off: subscribe to The North any time in January and receive a free Smith/Doorstop title. Use the form on our website here or post a cheque with a note letting us know which book you'd like.

All best wishes,
Katherine, Ann & Peter
