May Writing Day
& other news
Dear poets,
The May Writing Day will be held on the 29th of this month (a week on Saturday). As usual, we'll be in the Premier Inn conference room for the morning session, and divide into two groups (with one heading over to Bank Street Arts) in the afternoon. The day starts at 10:15 and finishes at 4pm, and places cost £25 or £18 unwaged. If you're planning to attend, please let us know by replying to this email.
Allison McVety's second collection was launched at a great event in Wokingham Town Hall last week. Miming Happiness was described by Vicky Feaver as "vivid and sensual", and by Samantha Wynne-Rhydderch as "exhilarating". Read a poem from the collection (or buy a copy) here.
We're also delighted to announce that we are now inviting entries for the 24th Book & Pamphlet Competition. This year's judge is Simon Armitage, and the closing date for postal entries is last posting on November 29th (and for online entries, the 1st of December). See here for full details, an entry form and online entry facilities.
And finally: later this year will be launching a range of new and backlist titles in ebook format, and it would be great if you could spare a few minutes to complete a short survey on the subject. There are just 10 simple questions, and the last one gives you the option of entering your name into a prize draw to win a Smith/Doorstop title of your choice. The survey is here.
Best wishes
