October poetry events

A reminder of a couple of events this week. Also, a
final call for poems for our
Masterclass on 24 October with John
McAuliffe. John is one of the most perceptive and generous readers,
whose outstanding collections are published by the Gallery Press. He
is director of the Centre for New Writing at Manchester University.

Atkinson, who is Derbyshire’s Poet
Laureate, reads from
Drawing Water; with two Poetry Business
Competition winners,
Sally Goldsmith reading from
Singer;
and
Alan
Payne from
Exploring the Orinoco. Please do come along if
you can, it will be fab.

Simon
Armitage, Ann Sansom and Peter Sansom. Simon is ‘the
most imaginative and
prolific poet now writing’ - Poetry Review. Simon will read from his
acclaimed new collection Shooting Stars. Ann’s poems ‘speak with
eloquence and power’ - Helen Dunmore, and her six collections include In
Praise of Men & Other People (Bloodaxe). Peter’s
poems are brought together in his fifth Carcanet book, Selected Poems,
launched tonight.
This event marks the start
of Simon's year-long community project in collaboration with the
University of Sheffield and The Poetry Business.
The evening will be introduced by Professor
Adam Piette of the University of Sheffield.
