Poetry Business events in March and April


Dear poets and readers,

The first ever Sheffield Poetry Festival will take place from the 1st to the 3rd of April this year, and the Poetry Business is delighted to be a stakeholder. Find full details and the Festival programme at the website here.

Geoff Hattersley at The Red Shed (Wakefield)
Thursday 2rd March, 7:30pm — £4 (£2 concs)
The Red Shed, Vicarage Lane, Wakefield WF1 

Smith/Doorstop poet, author of Back of Beyond, Geoff Hattersley will be reading at the Red Shed in Wakefield. 



Poetry Business Writing School reading (Grasmere)
Sunday 6th March, 1:30pm — Free entry
Dove Cottage, The Wordsworth Museum & Art Gallery, Grasmere LA22 9SH

The poets who are currently students on the advanced Poetry Business course, The Writing School, will be reading at Dove Cottage. The poets are Liz Cashdan, Ann Atkinson, Sally Goldsmith, Jim Caruth, Christy Ducker, Stuart Pickford, Robbie Burton, Noel Williams, Jonathan Davidson, Allison McVety, Pippa Little and Wendy Klein.



Sheffield Poetry Prize winners reading (Sheffield)
Friday
11th March, 7:30pm — Tickets £4 (£3 concs)
Bank Street Arts, Sheffield S1 2DS

The winners of the 2010 Sheffield Poetry Prize — James Caruth (1st), Anthony Adler (2nd) and Fay Musselwhite (3rd) — will be reading alongside Smith/Doorstop poets Simon Currie (launching Imagine a Forest) and Sally Goldsmith (from her pamphlet, Singer). 

There will also be a bar, nibbles and a book stall. Contact us to let us know if you're planning to attend.

The Poetry Business Showcase (Huddersfield)
Friday 18th March, 6pm — £5 (£3 concs)
The Media Centre, Huddersfield

Smith/Doorstop poets Sally Baker, Michael McCarthy and Sally Goldsmith will all be reading at the 2011 Huddersfield Literature Festival. See here for full details.



25 Years of the Poetry Business, with Peter Sansom (Leicester)
Saturday 19th March, 3pm — free entry
Clephan Building, De Montfort University, Oxford Street, Leicester

Peter Sansom will be giving a talk about 25 years of The Poetry Business at the Independent Press Day at De Montfort University in Leicester. Book stalls and events. See www.statesofindependence.co.uk for full details.



Poetry Business Writing Day (Sheffield)
Saturday 26th March, 10:15am — £25 (£20 concs)

The March Writing Day will be held on the 26th March. As usual, we will be starting in the Premier Inn on the corner of Angel Street and Bank Street, with half the group in our premises at Bank Street Arts for the afternoon session. Contact us to let us know if you're planning to attend.



Simon Armitage, Nell Farrell & Ed Reiss reading (Sheffield)

Simon Armitage, Nell Farrell and Ed Reiss will be reading at The Workstation as part of the Sheffield Poetry Festival.

Launch of 25 Years of The North (issue 47) (Sheffield)

As part of the Sheffield Poetry Festival, we will be launching North 47 with a poetry party at Bank Street Arts.

Ann Atkinson & River Wolton reading (Sheffield)

Smith/Doorstop poets Ann Atkinson and River Wolton will be taking part in an event entitled 'Laureates on Your Doorstep', reading their own work and opening a discussion. Book tickets at The Showroom box office, or pay on the door.



Leeds Salon debate (sponsored by The Poetry Business) (Sheffield)
Monday 4th April, 6:30pm — donations welcomed

The Poetry Business is sponsoring a Leeds Salon debate with the title 'Poetry and the tyranny of relevance'. Confirmed speakers include Michael Schmidt and Michele Ledda (more to be announced). Contact Leeds Salon to let them know if you're planning to attend.



25 Years of Smith/Doorstop Books (London)
Wednesday 6th April, 8pm — Free entry
Saison Poetry Library, Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, London SE1 8XX

In an event titled '25 Years of Smith/Doorstop Books & The North Magazine', Gerard Benson, Yvonne Green, Michael Laskey, Allison McVety and Catherine Smith will be reading at the Saison Poetry Library.
