ACC Grantee Activity Report Meetings

 

昨年フェローシップを完了したグランティ4名による活動報告会を実施いたしました。
音楽分野でフェローシップを行った成瀬茉倫さん（ACC 2022）と森円花さん（ACC 2023）の報告会を3月19日に、また昨年7月から12月にニューヨークで同時期にフェローシップを行った萩原雄太さん（ACC2022）と大崎晴地さん（ACC2022）の報告会を5月7日に行いました。
成瀬さんはニューヨークを拠点とする6ヶ月のフェローシップで、米国の民族音楽の保護活動を調査すると同時に、アメリカ各地の奄美コミュニティや日系人会を訪れ、現地の人々に向けた島唄のワークショップや公演を行いました。森さんはニューヨークでの約5ヶ月間の滞在期間中、オーケストラや音楽関係者との交流を積極的に行い、社会と音楽の関わりへの見識を深めると同時に、自身の創作活動における貴重な体験を得ました。
萩原さんは、数多くの公演、パフォーマンスやダンス、展覧会、また演劇関係者を訪れ、アメリカにおける民主主義とパフォーミングアーツの関係、コミュニティの意味、また政治性を抱える身体の問題について考察し、コロナ禍以降変化するニューヨークの現状についてもリポートを行いました。大崎さんは、ニューヨークを拠点にアメリカ各地で障害やケアに関わる専門家やアーティスト、施設を訪問し、自らの実践について語り合う機会を得ました。また、ニューパルツのグラスハウスで開催されたイベントに参加し、自身の代表作「Air Tunnel」を展示しました。この報告会には、次に渡航するACCグランティも同席し、有意義な情報交流の場にもなりました。またこの報告会は、初めての試みとしてACC日本財団役員やファウンディング・メンバーの皆様に向けてオンライン配信されました。

 

We held activity report meetings for the four grantees who completed their fellowships last year.
Marin Naruse (ACC 2022) and Madoka Mori (ACC 2023), who conducted their fellowships in the field of music, reported their fellowship activities on March 19. Additionally, Yuta Hagiwara (ACC2022) and Haruchi Osaki (ACC2022), who spent the same period from July to December in New York, reported their activity results on May 7.
Marin Naruse researched the preservation of ethnic music in the U.S. during her 6-month fellowship in New York, and at the same time visited different Amami and Nikkei communities in the U.S. and conducted Shima-uta workshops and performances for the local people. Madoka Mori interacted with a number of orchestras and music professionals during her five-month stay in New York, deepening her insight into the relationship between society and music and gaining valuable experiences for her creative activities.
Yuta Hagiwara visited numerous performances, dance events, exhibitions, and met with theater professionals to explore the relationship between democracy and the performing arts in the U.S., the meaning of community, and issues concerning the politicization of the body. He also reported on the evolving situation in New York City post-COVID-19.
Haruchi Osaki had the opportunity to visit professionals, artists, and institutions involved in disability and care in New York and other cities in the U.S. to discuss his ractices. He also participated in an event at the Glass House in New Paltz, where he exhibited his signature work, “Air Tunnel. ACC grantees, who will be traveling to New York next, also participated in the meeting, which provided an opportunity for meaningful exchange of information. As another first attempt, this meeting was streamed online for ACC Japan Boards and Founding Members.

リュウ・チェンシー（チェルシー）さん来日！

Chelsea Quanxi LIU in Japan!

 

キュレーターとして、これまで中国と東アジア間の芸術的、文化的生産における相互関係や、20世紀後半のグローバリゼーションにおける異文化間の役割について研究を行ってきました。今回のフェローシップでは日本に約３ヶ月間、その後韓国、タイ、ベトナムなどに滞在し、各地の芸術機関やプログラムの研究、またアジアの近現代美術史の専門家たちとの交流を通して、各地のアートシーンへの理解を深めることを目的としています。日本がグローバル化する社会と相互作用しながら、いかにして新しい芸術文化を醸成してきたか、また日本やアジアの各地域の作品やキュレーションが、その地域の歴史や政治にどのように応答してきたかを考察し、ローカルとグローバルの問題への理解を深めることを目指しています。

 

As a curator, Chelsea Qianxi Liu has researched the interactive relationship between China and East Asia in terms of artistic and cultural production, as well as its cross-cultural role in late 20th century globalization. During her fellowship, she will spend 3 months in Japan, followed by trips in Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, and other countries in Asia to research the art ecologies of the regions, especially of art institutions, programs, and individuals who focus on the modern and contemporary Asian art history. She aims to explore how Japanese contemporary art has grasped the uniqueness of its local social, historical, and political contexts as it interacted with an increasingly globalized community and how artworks and curatorial practices in Japan and other Asian countries have responded to their local histories and politics to better understand and gain new perspectives on local and global issues.

現在ACCフェローとして、日本およびアジア各国でリサーチを行っている。2017年から2024年まで北京の非営利芸術機関泰康空間のキュレーターを務め、2014年から2017年までニューヨークのARTFORUM Internationalに勤務。コネチカット大学と清華大学で美術史の修士号を取得。中国の新進キュレーター奨励のための「Hyundai Blue Prize」の2018年度のファイナリストに選出され、同年「Jimei x Arles Discovery Award」にノミネートされる。2020年と2021年には、第8回ならびに第9回「華宇青年賞」の第一次審査の審査員を務めた。近年の主な企画に「Professional Amateur and Emerging Modernity：Luo Bonian and His Contemporaries, 1930-1940s」（2021）、「Let Painting Talk」 (2021)など。また『Zhang Peili: Record. Repeat 』（シカゴ美術館）の編集・翻訳に携わる。『ARTFORUM』、『LEAP』、『ArtAsiaPacific』、『FLASH ART』などに寄稿。

 

Currently an Asian Cultural Council (ACC) fellow conducting research in Japan and other countries in Asia. Previously, she held the position of curator at Taikang Art Museum (formerly known as Taikang Space, Beijing) from 2017 to 2024 and worked at ARTFORUM International in New York from 2014 to 2017. She received master’s degrees in art history and criticism from University of Connecticut in the US and Tsinghua University in China. She was the Finalist of the award for emerging Chinese curators, “Hyundai Blue Prize 2018,” and served as the nominator for “Jimei x Arles Discovery Award” in the same year. She was on the shortlist Jury for the Eighth and Ninth “Huayu Youth Award” in 2020 and 2021. Her recent curatorial projects include “Professional Amateur and Emerging Modernity: Luo Bonian and His Contemporaries, 1930-1940s” (2021) and “Let Painting Talk” (2021). She was involved in the editorial project of Zhang Peili: Record. Repeat (Art Institute of Chicago, 2017) and writes for ARTFORUM, LEAP, ArtAsiaPacific, and FLASH ART, among others.
