アキル・クマラサミー

作家。長編デビュー作『Meet Us by the Roaring Sea』（2022年、Farrar, Straus and Giroux）はニューヨーク・タイムズ紙のエディターズ・チョイスに選ばれ、アーシュラ・K・ル＝グウィン賞とラムダ文学賞の最終候補となった。連作短編集『Half Gods』（FSG、2018年）は、バード・フィクション賞とストーリー賞スポットライト賞を受賞し、ニューヨーク・タイムズ紙のエディターズ・チョイス、PEN／ロバート・W・ビンガム賞の最終候補に選出された。作品はHarper's Magazine、The Atlantic、American Short Fiction、BOMBなどに掲載されている。ラトガース大学ニューアーク校で助教授を務めるほか、2024-25ラドクリフ高等研究所フェロー。

Akil KUMARASAMY’s debut novel, Meet Us by the Roaring Sea, published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux in 2022, was selected as a New York Times Editors’ Choice, and was shortlisted for the Ursula K. Le Guin Prize and Lambda Literary Award. Her linked short story collection, Half Gods, (FSG, 2018), received the Bard Fiction Prize and the Story Prize Spotlight Award, and was a finalist for the PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize as well as a New York Times Editors’ Choice. Her work has appeared in Harper’s Magazine, The Atlantic, American Short Fiction, BOMB, among others.  She is an assistant professor in the Rutgers University-Newark MFA program and a 2024-25 fellow at the Harvard Radcliffe Institute.

コト・マエサカさん来日! 
Koto MAESAKA in Japan!

マエサカさんは、アメリカで10年以上にわたりアート・アドミニストレーターおよびプロジェクトマネージャーとして活動し、多様なコミュニティと関わりながら、プログラムにおける多様性と包括性の推進に取り組んできました。

日本でのフェローシップでは、2019年以降、芸術を通じた教育活動や西アフリカ文化の紹介で協働してきた、ダンサー、振付師、教育者のシルヴィア・スーマさんとともに、アイヌ文化における音楽と舞踊の役割、岩手県の和太鼓の文化的意義や盛岡さんさ踊りとの関連、そして徳島の阿波おどりの歴史的発展や地域社会への影響について調査します。先住民族の文化保存に伴う課題、文化の比較研究、伝統的な祭りが文化的アイデンティティの形成や地域の結束促進に果たす役割について考察を深めることを目指しています。

With over ten years of experience in the fields of arts administration and project management, Koto MAESAKA has worked with diverse communities, promoting diversity and inclusion across various programs.
During this fellowship in Japan, she will collaborate with dancer, choreographer, and educator Sylvia SOUMAH, with whom she has worked since 2019 on educational initiatives and the introduction of West African culture, to explore the roles of music and dance in Ainu culture, the cultural significance of wadaiko drumming in Iwate Prefecture and its connection to the Morioka Sansa Odori Festival, as well as the history and impact of Awa Odori in Tokushima. Their research aims to deepen understanding of the challenges in preserving Indigenous cultures, conduct comparative studies across cultures, and examine how traditional festivals shape cultural identity and foster community cohesion.

2008年から2019年までアメリカのWashington Performing Artsで教育・地域連携プログラムを担当し、400以上の事業を企画・運営。2019年以降はフリーランスとして、コンサルタントやプログラムマネージャーとして活動し、「Finding Rhythm」などの文化事業を支援。2014年からはワシントンD.C.で日本語と文化を教える「Japanese Learning Group」も主宰し、日米の文化をつなぎ、多様性と包括性、異文化理解の促進に貢献している。

Koto MAESAKA
From 2008 to 2019, she led education and community initiatives at Washington Performing Arts, coordinating more than 400 programs. Since 2019, she has worked independently as a consultant and program manager, supporting local artists and cultural projects like "Finding Rhythm." Maesaka also founded the Japanese Learning Group in Washington, D.C., teaching language and culture since 2014. Her work bridges Japanese and American cultures, promoting diversity, inclusion, and cross-cultural understanding through the arts.

ACC Japan Grantee Alumni Gathering 2025

 

ACC日本財団によるグランティ・アルムナイ・ギャザリング（同窓会）を7月11日に国際文化会館にて開催しました。当日は連日の暑さでご体調を崩された方や、直前の雷雨でやむを得ずご来場が叶わなかった方もいらっしゃいましたが、31名のACCグランティと、ACCの活動を支えて下さるファウンディングメンバーの皆様、財団役員が集い、和やかな素晴らしい会となりました。懇親会は、理事長麻生和子のご挨拶に続いて河合正朝さん（ACC 1987）のご発声による乾杯で始まり、2025年度の新たなグランティのご紹介や、奄美大島の島唄の唄者であり研究者、成瀬茉倫さん（ACC 2022）による演奏が行われました。ダンス分野のグランティが中心となりその場で踊りに参加してくださり、大いに盛り上がりました。今年も、多彩な分野で活躍する参加者の皆様が、世代や領域を超えて会話や交流をお楽しみいただきました。ご参加くださった皆様に感謝申し上げるとともに、これからもこのような会が皆様の交流や繋がりを深める機会となることを願っています。

ACC Japan Foundation (ACCJF) held its Grantee Alumni Gathering at the International House of Japan on July 11. A total of 31 ACC grantees, along with ACC Japan Founding Members and the Board Members of ACCJF, who continue to support ACC's activities, gathered for a lively evening of exchange and reconnection. The reception began with a greeting by Kazuko ASO, the Chair of ACCJF, followed by a toast from Masatomo KAWAI (ACC 1987). Midway through the event, the new grantees for 2025 were introduced, and Marin NARUSE (ACC 2022), a singer and researcher of Amami Shima-uta (songs originating from the Amami Islands), gave a beautiful performance. Grantees in the field of dance took part in dancing on the spot, creating a lively and exciting atmosphere. Participants active in a variety of fields enjoyed conversations and exchanges across generations and areas of expertise. We sincerely thank everyone who attended and hope these gatherings will continue to serve as a valuable opportunity to strengthen their connections.
