ACC 2025年度グランティ｜ACC 2025 Grantees  

堀内悠希さん、向井航さん、黒田杏菜さん、NYで滞在開始
Yuuki HORIUCHI, Wataru MUKAI, and Anna KURODA started their fellowships in NY
 

2025年度前期のニューヨークフェローシップが開始しました。日本からは、堀内悠希さん、向井航さんの2名が参加。また、個人フェローの黒田杏菜さんも1月上旬に渡米し、ニューヨークでリサーチ活動中です。

 

The first cohort period for the 2025 New York fellowship has commenced. From Japan, Yuuki Horiuchi and Wataru Mukai are participating. Anna Kuroda, an individual fellow, also traveled to the U.S. in early January and is currently conducting her research activities in New York. 

 

堀内悠希さん

堀内さんは、馴染みのある経験や自然界の現象を、直感的なイメージを想起させる瑞々しい表現として作品に留めるビジュアル・アーティストです。今回のフェローシップでは、アメリカ郊外に点在する大型作品の制作と同時に、多くの発表やアーカイブ制作をニューヨークで行なったロバート・スミッソンとその同世代作家を調査し、都市と遠方という２つの場所を巡る制作と発表のあり方を考察します。現地の専門家やアーティストらとの交流を通じ、ランドアートにおけるアーカイブの有効性、また作品に内在する自然現象や都市から田舎への眼差しを調査するとともに、調査と並行し、ニューメキシコ州のホルト/スミッソン財団、ユタ州のホルト作品『The Sun Tunnel』、ウォルター・デ・マリアの『The Lightning Field』等を視察する予定です。

【プロフィール】
映像、立体、絵画、インスタレーションなど様々な手法を用いて、時間や意味の重なりや、偶然の連鎖について既存の知覚概念と異なる視点から表現する。2015年東京芸術大学美術学部絵画科油画専攻卒業。2021年よりポーラ美術振興財団と吉野石膏美術振興財団の助成を受け、ロンドンに滞在。2023年スレード美術学校（ユニバーシティ・カレッジ・ロンドン）修士課程終了。主な個展に「Qの旅」(十和田市現代美術館 Space、青森、2024)、「カンタム テレポーテーション」 (駒込倉庫、東京、2023)、「Parallel World」（NOHGA HOTEL Ueno、東京、2020)、グループ展に「See the Light」（HAGIWARA PROJECTS、東京、2022）、ALTERNATIVE KYOTO「余の光／Light of My World（旧銀鈴ビル、京都、2021）、「版行動 映えることができない」（東京都美術館、2021）など国内外で多数。

 

Yuuki HORIUCHI

Horiuchi is a visual artist who captures familiar experiences and natural phenomena in her work as vivid expressions that evoke intuitive imagery. Her fellowship research will center on Robert Smithson and his contemporaries, who created land art and other large-scale works across the U.S. countryside that were later exhibited and documented in their archives in New York. Through archival research and interactions with local experts and artists, she will explore their approach to creating and presenting art in both urban and remote settings, investigating the significance of archives and how they can inform contemporary art today. Some of Horiuchi’s prospective site visits include the Smithson and Holt Foundation in New Mexico, Holt's Sun Tunnel in Utah, and Walter De Maria's Lightning Field, among others.

Horiuchi employs video, sculpture, painting, and installation to delve into expressions of time, contradictions and multiplicity in meaning, and the notion of random occurrences from a perspective that challenges the conventional understanding of perception. In 2015, she graduated from the Oil Painting Course in the Department of Painting at Tokyo University of the Arts. Horiuchi has received grants from the Pola Art Foundation and the Yoshino Gypsum Art Foundation. In 2023, she completed an MFA at the Slade School of Fine Arts, University College London. She has been participating in various exhibitions both in Japan and overseas, including a solo exhibition, Q's journey, Towada Art Center satellite space, Aomori, 2024.

向井航さん 
「クィア」と「アーカイブ」の二つをテーマに研究と制作を行っている向井さんは、今日のニューヨークの現代音楽および現代アートシーンで、クィアがどのように受容、表象されているかをリサーチし、またアカデミックな現場におけるクィアな音楽実践の研究や教育について調査を行います。現地のドラァグパフォーマーをはじめ、クィアアーティストや活動家、大学教授や作曲家との交流を通して自身の創作を見つめ直すと同時に、クィアアートの概念と実践を再定義し、新たなクィアのカルチュラル・アーカイブを構築することを目指します。

【プロフィール】
作曲家、パフォーマー、研究者。作品は邦楽曲からオーケストラにまで多岐にわたり、近年はジェンダー、クィア、アクティビズムをキーワードに制作を展開している。《ダンシング・クィア》で第33回芥川也寸志サントリー作曲賞受賞。東京藝術大学音楽学部作曲科を首席で卒業後、同大学院修士課程在籍中に渡独。マンハイム国立音楽舞台芸術大学修士課程作曲科及びベルン芸術大学修士課程Théâtre musicaにて研鑽を積む。アントンブルックナー私立大学およびベルン芸術大学博士課程を満期退学。東京藝術大学大学院美術研究科博士後期課程先端芸術表現領域に在籍中。

 

Wataru MUKAI
Mukai studies and creates work centered on the themes of “queerness” and “archives.” For their fellowship, they investigate how queerness is received and represented in New York’s contemporary music and art scenes and explore queer music practices in academic settings. Mukai explores themes of gender and queerness through music theater projects rooted in documentary storytelling. Through interactions with drag performers, queer artists, activists, professors, and composers in New York, Mukai aims to reflect on their own creative work while redefining the concepts and practices of queer art and building a new queer cultural archive.

Mukai is a composer, performer and scholar whose work spans a wide range from Japanese traditional music to orchestral compositions. In recent years, they have been developing their practice around the themes of gender, queerness, and activism. Mukai received the 33rd Yasushi Akutagawa Suntory Composition Award with "Dancing Queer - for orchestra" in 2023. After graduating at the top of his class from the Composition Department of the Tokyo University of the Arts, they traveled to Germany while enrolled in the university's graduate program. He pursued further studies in the Composition Master's Program at the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts and in the Théâtre musical Master's Program at the Bern University of the Arts. They completed doctoral studies at Anton Bruckner Private University and are now pursuing doctoral research at Tokyo University of the Arts.

黒田杏菜さん
黒田さんは、身体の内側と外側にふれる空気を繊細に切り、鋭く、独特なリズムを持つダンサー・振付家で、パフォーマーの身体が目に見える形を越え、存在と記憶を知覚できる振付を探求しています。今回のフェローシップでは、トリシャ・ブラウン・ダンス・カンパニー（TBDC）に焦点を当て、ポストモダンダンスの観点からダンスの持続可能性について研究します。また、ロバート・ラウシェンバーグ生誕100周年記念公演の一環として開催されるTBDCとマース・カニンガム・ダンス・カンパニーのプロジェクトのリハーサルへの参加を通じて、両カンパニーの異なる動きを学び、ダンサーたちがどのように踊り続け、受け継がれてきた振付を未来の世代に伝えていくのかを研究します。

【プロフィール】
ダンサー・振付家。横浜とシドニーを拠点に活動している。2010年サウンドマルチメディアアーティスト、デイビット・カークパトリックとMurasaki Penguinを結成。2016年トヨタコレオグラフィーアワードファイナリスト。2015年Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre、2019年Blacktown Arts Centreレジデンスアーティスト。過去にニブロール、オンケンセン、KENTARO!!、田畑真希、室伏鴻、フィリップアダムス、ブルックアンドリュー、ショーネッドヒューズ、木村玲奈、ヘザー・B・スワン、シャーメインシートの作品に出演または創作に携わる。

 

Anna KURODA
Kuroda is a dancer and choreographer whose movement practice focuses on sensitivity to internal and external air flow around the body, sharpness, fragility and unique rhythm. She aspires to make work where, through focus and technical skill, the dancer’s body is, in a way, unseen; leaving cells and memories.
During her fellowship, Kuroda focuses on the Trisha Brown Dance Company (TBDC) and research the sustainability of dance from the perspective of postmodern dance. She also attends rehearsals for TBDC and Merce Cunningham Dance Company projects, both held as part of the 100th anniversary celebration of Robert Rauschenberg's birth. Through observing these rehearsals, she aims to learn the two companies’ distinct movement vocabularies and study how the dancers will continue to perform and pass on this received choreography to future generations.

Anna Kuroda is a dancer and choreographer, based in Yokohama and Sydney, Australia. In 2010 Kuroda founded Murasaki Penguin with sound/multimedia artist David Kirkpatrick for interdisciplinary collaboration. She was one of 6 finalists at the Toyota Choreography Award (2016), was Resident Artist at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre (2015) and Blacktown Arts Centre (2019). Kuroda has worked with Nibroll, Ong Keng Sen, KENTARO!!, Maki Tabata, Ko Murobushi, Phillip Adams, Brook Andrew, Sioned Huws, Reina Kimura, Heather B Swann and Charemaine Seet. 

 

 

2025年第3回フェローシップ報告会（2024年グランティ：關智子さん）
The 3rd ACC Fellowship Report Meeting 2025：Tomoko SEKI (ACC 2024)

 

 昨年前半にニューヨークでフェローシップを行った、2024年グランティの關智子さん（ACC / Saison Foundation Fellow）の報告会を、セゾン文化財団が運営する森下スタジオにて実施しました。
關さんはフェローシップ期間中、ニューヨークで多数の演劇やダンス公演を鑑賞し、ブロードウェイ、オフ・ブロードウェイ、オフ・オフ・ブロードウェイの作品にも触れました。あわせて、ニューヨーク公共図書館などにおいて過去作品のアーカイブ調査も行いました。また、ニューヨーク市立大学での聴講を通じて、米国における劇作家教育のプロセスや戯曲の出版状況を調査し、日本・米国・英国の相違点について考察しました。

 

A fellowship report meeting was held at Morishita Studio, operated by the Saison Foundation, featuring Tomoko Seki, a 2024 grantee and ACC / Saison Foundation Fellow, who conducted a fellowship in New York during the first half of last year.
During the fellowship period, Seki attended a wide range of theater and dance performances in New York, including productions on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Off-Off-Broadway. In addition, she conducted archival research on past works at institutions such as the New York Public Library. While auditing courses at the City University of New York, she also examined the processes of playwright education and the state of play publishing in the United States, and explored the differences among Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

 

 

ニューヨークで「アーカイブの考察―アーティスト・アーカイブ・シンポジウム」開催
“Archival Thinking: Artist Archive Symposium” in MoMA PS1, New York

 

2025年12月4日、ニューヨークのMoMA PS1にて、ACC NY本部は、蔡國強さん（ACC 1995; J.D.ロックフェラー賞2021）の財団であるCai Foundationとの共催で「アーカイブの考察―アーティスト・アーカイブ・シンポジウム」を開催しました。
30年前、蔡さんは初めてACCのグラントを得て東京からニューヨークへと渡り、PS1のスタジオプログラムに参加したことが転機となりました。そしてこの渡米から、彼のグローバルな舞台における人生と実践が始まり、今日まで続く芸術とアーカイブ実践の対話が開始されました。
本シンポジウムは、ラトレイ・キムラ財団の後援を受け、ポール・ホールデングレーバー氏（元ニューヨーク公共図書館パブリック・プログラム・ディレクター）がキュレーションと司会を担当。1日かけて2つの基調講演と3つのパネルディスカッションを実施し、美術・アーカイブ・人文科学の各分野から著名な講演者を招き、200名近く集まった参加者とともにアーティスト・アーカイブの現代的意義と可能性を探求しました。
この日の締めくくりは、Cai Foundationが設立した第1回アーカイブ貢献賞の授与式で、受賞者には蔡さんによる特別デザインのアートワーク・トロフィーが授与されました。美術史家の富井玲子さん（ACC 1987）が個人部門で受賞し、また、ACCのエグゼクティブ・ディレクター、ジュディ・キムが、団体部門のプレゼンターとしてフランクリン・ファーネスにトロフィーを手渡しました。

On December 4, 2025, Asian Cultural Council and the Cai Foundation jointly organized “Archival Thinking: Artist Archive Symposium” held at MoMA PS1 in New York. 
30 years ago, CAI Guo-Qiang (ACC 1995; JDR 3rd Award 2021) was received first ACC grant that took him from Tokyo to New York for a pivotal residency at the PS1 Studio Program. The move marked the beginning of his life and practice on the global stage—setting into motion a dialogue between art and archival practice that continues to today.
The symposium was held with the support from the Rattray Kimura Foundation, and was curated and moderated by Paul Holdengräber (interviewer, curator, former director of the New York Public Library's public programming). Over the course of a single day, the event was composed of two keynote speeches and three panel discussions, and brought together distinguished speakers from the fields of art, archives, and the humanities to explore the contemporary significance and potential of artist archives with nearly 200 attendees.
The day concluded with the presentation of the inaugural Archival Contribution Award, established by the Cai Foundation, and recipients were given a specially designed artwork-trophy by Cai. Dr. Reiko TOMII (ACC 1987) received the award in the individual category. ACC Executive Director, Judy Kim appeared as the presenter in the organizational category, and handed the trophy to Franklin Furness.
