The 2nd ACC Fellowship Report Meeting 2026: Souya HANDA, Hideki UMEZAWA (ACC 2024)

 　  

ACC Japan held a fellowship report session with Souya Handa and Hideki Umezawa, who completed six-month fellowships in New York last year. While based in New York, they pursued research and developed connections with artists and arts professionals. They also traveled extensively across the United States, conducting field research related to their respective artistic practices and research pursuits.

Souya HANDA (New York Fellowship | USA, July – December 2025)
In New York City, Handa conducted research on Asian artists and art professionals, building relationships across multiple local art communities. He attended numerous exhibitions, opening receptions, and studio visits, engaging with artists and curators throughout his fellowship. A particularly meaningful experience was traveling to Los Alamos, New Mexico, where he was deeply struck by the contrast between its natural beauty and its history as a key site of the Manhattan Project.

Hideki UMEZAWA (New York Fellowship | USA, July – December 2025)
In New York, Umezawa conducted archival research at Columbia University, advancing his research on sound art. Highlights of his fellowship included experiencing works by Max Newhouse and conducting related archival research. He traveled to eight U.S. cities, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, and Boston, gaining a deeper understanding of the country’s geographic and cultural diversity. Encounters with sound artists across the U.S. informed his practice, particularly in sound and site-specific work, while field recordings in Alaska provided further insights for his creative development.

6/30 Talk Event: ACC Grantees’ Voices — Fellowship Experiences Shared by Grantees

 

ACCのフェローシップを経たグランティ（助成受給者）が、海外での長期滞在やリサーチを通じて得た経験を語るトークイベント「ACC Grantees’ Voices ―グランティが語るフェローシップ体験」を開催します。
本イベントでは、ACCのグラントにより米国でフェローシップ活動を行った半田颯哉さん（2024年グランティ）と、インドネシアで活動を行った熊倉晴子さん（2025年グランティ）という2名のキュレーターに、その活動内容や、異文化の中での体験、滞在を通じての気づきや意識の変化などについてお話しいただきます。あわせて、審査員を務めていただいた鷲田めるろさん（金沢21世紀美術館館長/ 東京藝術大学大学院国際芸術創造研究科准教授）をモデレーターに迎え、ディスカッション形式でのトーク・セッションも予定。また、ACCのグラントプログラムのご紹介も行い、トーク終了後には、交流の時間も設ける予定です。

 

ACC Japan Foundation is pleased to hold "ACC Grantees’ Voices – Fellowship Experiences Shared by Grantees," a talk event in which ACC grantees share insights and experiences gained through their long-term stays and research abroad.

For this event, we invite two curators as speakers: Souya HANDA (ACC 2024), who conducted his fellowship in the United States, and Haruko KUMAKURA (ACC 2025), who carried out her fellowship in Indonesia. They will talk about their activities, cross-cultural experiences, and the changes in perspective and awareness that emerged through their time abroad.

The session will also include a moderated discussion led by Meruro Washida (Director, 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa / Associate Professor, Graduate School of Tokyo University of the Arts), who served on the ACC Japan Selection Panel.
