2026年第3回フェローシップ報告会（2024年グランティ：毒山凡太朗さん、八幡亜樹さん）
The 3rd ACC Fellowship Report Meeting 2026: Bontaro DOKUYAMA, Aki YAHATA (ACC 2024)
米国で昨年同時期に6か月間フェローシップを行った毒山凡太郎さんと八幡亜樹さんによる報告会を開催しました。（八幡さんは台湾でレジデンス中のため、オンラインで参加。）それぞれのリサーチテーマに従い、アメリカ各地を訪問・滞在し、さまざまな体験や出会いを通して調査を進めました。
毒山凡太朗さん（ニューヨーク・フェローシップ｜米国、2025年7月〜2025年12月）
2011年の震災後、福島や原発を題材に作家活動を始めた毒山さんは、近年日本人の移民の歴史とその文化についてリサーチをし、作品制作を行っています。今回のフェローシップでは、明治維新以降の日系移民の歴史や文化継承に着目して、西海岸の５つの都市とニューヨークで調査を展開しました。西海岸では各地で日系コミュニティが開催する盆踊りに参加したほか、各地の日系アメリカ人博物館やジャパンタウンを訪問。コミュニティの卓球クラブに通うなど、積極的に現地の人々と触れ合い、研究者と意見を交わす中で、各地のコミュニティの在り方や文化継承の仕方の違いを体感しました。
八幡亜樹さん（ニューヨーク・フェローシップ｜米国、2025年7月〜2025年12月）
「辺境」をテーマに、フィールドワークや取材を経て、多層的な映像作品やインスタレーションを制作している八幡さんは、ニューヨークにおける移民コミュニティが、ディアスポラの状況の中でどのように文化的伝統を継承し、再解釈しているかをリサーチしました。またアリゾナ州でロードトリップを行い、ネイティブ・アメリカンの友人の案内のもと居留地を訪問。共同体の内部でのみ執り行われる特別な儀式に参加する機会を得るなど、フェローシップを通じて特に強く記憶に残る体験となりました。さらに、第二次世界大戦中にネイティブ・アメリカン居留地内に日系人収容所が建設されていた歴史を知り、この重層的な事実とどのように向き合うべきか熟慮を重ねながら、新たなリサーチテーマの探究を始めています。フェローシップ終了後も、滞在中に知り合った日系アメリカ人やネイティブ・アメリカンにルーツを持つアーティストとの交流やコラボレーションを継続しています。
ACC Japan held a fellowship report session by Bontaro Dokuyama and Aki Yahata, who completed a six-month fellowship in the United States last year. (Yahata participated online as she was participating in an artist residency program in Taiwan.) In accordance with their respective research themes, they traveled to and stayed in various parts of the United States, and conducted their research through a variety of experiences and encounters.
Bontaro DOKUYAMA (New York Fellowship | USA, July – December 2025)
After the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami, Dokuyama began his artistic practice focusing on Fukushima and nuclear power. In recent years, he has been researching the history of Japanese immigration and its culture, and creating works based on that research. During this fellowship, he conducted research in five cities on the West Coast and in New York, focusing on the history of Japanese immigrants and the transmission of their culture since the Meiji Restoration. On the West Coast, he participated in Bon Odori festivals organized by local Japanese American communities and visited Japanese American museums and Japan towns. By actively engaging with local residents—such as joining a local table tennis club—and exchanging views with researchers, he gained firsthand insight into the distinct characteristics of each community and the varied approaches to cultural preservation.
Aki YAHATA (New York Fellowship | USA, July – December 2025)
Yahata, who creates multi-layered video works and installations based on the theme of “periphery” through fieldwork and interviews, conducted research on how immigrant communities in New York preserve and reinterpret their cultural traditions within the context of diaspora. She also took a road trip through Arizona, and visited several reservations guided by a Native American friend. She had an opportunity to participate in a special ceremony held exclusively within the community, making this a particularly memorable experience through the fellowship. Furthermore, having learned about the history of Japanese-American internment camps built on Native American reservations during World War II, she began to explore a new research topic while carefully considering how to engage with these complex realities. Since completing the fellowship, she has remained in contact with the Japanese Americans she met during her stay and continues to collaborate with a Native American artist.
