"Analytical Solutions to Analytical Problems"
Vol. 9, No. 3+4
Third and Fourth Quarter, 2021
It has been a challenging year, but if you are reading this, you have survived and we wish you and your families and coleagues a better 2022.
A Look Back, A Look Ahead

2021

Both remote and on-site consulting/training were popular this year.  Several new companies signed remote consulting contracts (see below).  Two in-person courses at EAS (Reversed Phase and Troubleshooting) were very successful with great reviews.

2022

The Reversed Phase course will be offered at Pittcon (see sidebar).

The Chicago LC School's Intro to LC class will be back in a virtual format.  Stay tuned for details on the dates.

We anticipate more application information to be published here and in other journals during the next year.  Stay tuned.

Remote Consulting Becomes Popular

This has been a challenging time for everyone, but several of our customers have found a way to continue improving while limiting in-person contact.   We offer the following services in one simple contract.

"Analytical chemistry support services for chemical analysis.  Individual project SOWs to be formalized on an individual project basis if necessary, using the fee structure listed below.  Topics include, but are not limited to the following areas:

HPLC Method Development

  • Develop new procedures as needed for QC or R&D.
    • Specify column, mobile phase, operating conditions
  • Develop sample preparation procedures for existing or new products
    • Specify materials, equipment, and procedures

HPLC Method Optimization

  • Update and/or improve existing instrumental methods for new requirements such as
    • Lower detection limits
    • Additional analytes
  • Update and/or improve existing sample preparation procedures for new requirements
    • Provide lower detection limits
    • Reduce or eliminate interferences
    • Reduce problematic contaminants to increase column lifetime

Instrument, Method, and Process Troubleshooting

  • Review current and new problems, and propose solutions in concert with local staff

Chromatography Data Reporting

  • Design and/or update OpenLab reports to address new requirements

Remote Services

  • Most of these services can be provided on a remote basis with the following structure:
    • Remote services include phone, email, webex discussions
    • Billed in 15 minute minimum increments ($XX/15 min. = $4XX/hour)
    • Invoiced the last day of each month.
    • Minimum project size is one day (eight hours)"
You can use this time whenever you need it.  Some labs use up their time in a few days.  Others take a month or more.  Use it when you needed.

Thought For The Day

"What is life but a series of inspired follies.  The difficulty is to find them to do.  Never lose a chace: it doesn't come every day."
