Global Newsletter – March 2024

Creating a safer future for youth all around the world!

Dear Friends and Supporters,

As March begins, it is incredible to believe that there is less than a year left until the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety, which is being held in Marrakech, Morocco, on February 18-19, 2025.

It follows the 3rd Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety hosted in Stockholm in February 2020, which catalyzed a global movement with the Decade of Action 2021-2030 to reduce road fatalities and injuries by 50% by 2030.

This 4th Global Ministerial Conference aims to assess the progress made in implementing the Global Plan for Road Safety 2021-2030 so far, and to generate support for the new vision of safe and sustainable mobility for all.

Ratanawadee Winther, Chairperson of AIP Foundation Denmark and Thailand, sat down with our friends at the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety to discuss the impact that the ministerial conference in Stockholm has had in Thailand. Ratanawadee shared how it's critically important for civil society to collaborate and advocate for high-level officials to participate in Marrakech.

Our team in AIP Foundation Thailand was delighted to join the Chevron Partners meeting to share the successes and highlights of the Chevron Street Wise program in Thailand. We are proud to work together with Chevron Thailand to reduce the number of road injuries and fatalities and to contribute to the Second Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030. Throughout its implementation in 2021 – 2023, the program directly benefited 7,770 students, 504 teachers and thousands of people from nearby communities.

In Cambodia, we are working with Prudential to make Stueng Sen High School safer through the newly launched school zone infrastructure modification project. The improved school zones are safeguarding students of the school community as they travel to and from school. Empowering youth to speak up for their safe mobility rights is at the heart of the Global Plan.

In exciting news, the Global Youth Coalition for Road Safety has announced the dates for the 3rd World Youth Assembly taking place from 16th - 17th February 2025 in Marrakech! Don’t hesitate to save the date and start planning your journey to join the driving force behind a global movement toward change.

Stay tuned for more information to follow on the 4th Global Ministerial Conference and the 3rd World Youth Assembly. Until then, please read on.

Sincerely,

Mirjam Sidik
CEO, AIP Foundation
