          It's That Time again!

The beginning of the New Year is a great time to change the batteries in your Smoke Detectors and Carbon Monoxide Detectors. In addition, it's a perfect time to check your alarms to make sure they are functioning properly. Depending on the make and model, some have a test button for the alarm and others have optional lights and voice alerts as well. Make sure the units are dust free so the sensors aren't clogged.
Do you have adequate coverage? The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends that you should have a carbon monoxide detector centrally located outside of each separate sleeping area in the immediate vicinity of the bedroom.

National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) regulations state that in new homes “smoke alarms shall be installed in each separate sleeping room and on each additional story of the family living unit, including the basement and excluding crawl spaces and unfinished attics”.

Remember:  Smoke detectors only detect smoke when it passes in front of the sensor.  If a fire starts in concealed areas of the home such as an attic, chimney or crawl space the detector may not sense the fire in the early stages.  We believe that in some cases, exceeding code requirements may be a wise decision.

Your local Ace Hardware has a great selection of Smoke Alarms and Carbon Monoxide Detectors plus a wide selection of all type of batteries for all smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
