Lawn & Garden Tips from Holly

Since we jumped ship on spring and went straight to summer, we all probably applied turf builders and pest management earlier this year which would make it time to start our second rounds...

Vegetables are really starting to pop their blossoms or are already starting to set fruits; however, keep in mind it is a good time to give nutrients to and work the soil which feeds the crops and put up barriers to help support the plant, which also will help keep unwanted nibblers away... Through fun conversation between gardeners, we all have come across interesting (yet effective!) pest management systems... Have you ever heard of sprinkling baby powder around your plants to keep rabbits away?  They are a relatively clean animal and constantly grooming their feet... The baby powder gets on their feet, then they lick their feet and absolutely hate the taste of the baby powder... Hanging spinners, 'whirly-gigs', or moving shiny objects in your garden will help scare off birds... Ever wanted to grow a wide-range edible garden just because the plants were neat, yet knew you wouldn't use the entire harvest..?  Try finding alternate uses other than eating for the harvested crops like using hot peppers such as habaneros with water in your tank sprayer to create a border for some animals to stay away from certain areas in your yard...

Pond plants are really getting ready to start their show for the season and why not come in and hear about Laguna and the new and trusted products they offer from our Laguna Representative to see how much more show your pond, fountain, or water garden can have this season...  The Wabash location is holding an event June 28th at 7:00p.m.

And don't forget your trees!  They need care too!  Sharpen your tools and start pruning out dead or raising the canopy on those trees and don't forget to feed them too with a root feeder... It's a great time to plant a tree to be able to enjoy the rest of the season and it will have ample time to get rooted in before it goes dormant this winter...  We're not talking winter already!

Now sit back, relax, and enjoy all your hard work...
