  The Original Endless Bloom Hydrangea
a great Mother's Day gift!

A mophead hydrangea that can bloom on both the current season's growth as well as the previous year's growth. This Endless Summer hydrangea greatly outperforms the old-fashioned Hydrangea macrophylla. The notion was simple and, once the breakthrough was made, the results have been spectacular.

The repeat blooms of Endless Summer® The Original truly offer gardeners an endless summer of incredible color. This hardy plant is perfect for everything from foundation planting to container gardening. They even make an ideal floral arrangement or table setting as cut flowers.

Speaking of color – that's also one of the remarkable aspects of this plant. You can alter the color from pink to blue.

Asiatic Lily

Asiatic Lilies make excellent house and garden plants. You can enjoy your plant in your home and after it is bloomed out you can plant it in your garden. Take the outer pot off and plant about 10 cm deep. Make sure your plant stays humid. Your plant will go in dormancy (dies back) in fall and will produce even bigger and better flowers the next summer.

Asiatic Lilies also are very suitable to enjoy on your deck or garden. They grow easy and the flowers last a long time. If you want to over-winter your patio pot it is important to store the plant frost free. Store your plants in a cool and dry area. You can put these plants back on your deck in spring after the last frost. Make sure you water regularly when the plant goes back outside.

You can plant lilies in fall or spring. Lilies will bloom in early summer.

Lawn & Garden Tips from Holly

The Lawn & Garden To-Do List

Winter clean-up of dead materials such as removing debris from shrubs and perennial beds, as well as clearing deadwood from semi-woody and woody perennials, roses, and shrubs.... Prune all trees and shrubs... Work the soil in your plant beds; such as compost, removing any unwanted plant matter and treat for weeds (weeds, undesireables, or invasive plants), and putting down new mulch (optimal depths are 3-4" of mulch)... Helpful hint with mulch, Preen below the mulch and above!!! Check for new growth of plants... Divide perennials.  Rule of thumb when dividing, let the plant be in the ground at least 2 years before dividing.... Plant veggies and fruits in your garden, but still watch those temps that they don't take your plants some night while you are sleeping... If you haven't started to harden off your plants you brought in for the winter or seed starts, slowly start acclamating them to the weather conditions outside by bringing them in and out in increased intervals of times until they are outside all the time...

Check hardscaping and deck areas for repairs from winter damage...

As well as feeding ALL plants including your lawn, be prepared for our flying friends and have your feeders out early since they will be coming in earlier this year due to the June weather in April... They'll be here before all our plants are ready to feed them all...

Now what to do with all that lawn waste excess??? Start your own compost pile!

Hardy Banana Plant

Recent research has shown that Musa basjoo, the world's hardiest banana species, is actually from Sichuan, China and not Japan. This 16-20' tall running species makes a thick, green stem that sports 6' long, narrow, green leaves arching from the top of the trunk. The flower of Musa basjoo emerges from near the top of the stem like a yellow-orange torpedo. After the flowers open, you will be blessed with clusters of small, yellow, 2" long bananas. Forget eating this one...just enjoy the tropical look and tease your neighbors. We recommend a good mulch in colder regions until your Musa basjoo clump becomes well-established. If the plants is sold out at your local Ace Hardware Garden Center, check with a sales associate to see when the next shipment will be arriving.

 Boston Ferns

One of the most popular varieties of fern is the Boston fern. With its frilly leaves and long hanging fronds, it's easy to see why this houseplant is so widely admired. Boston ferns that are full and flourishing are a wonderful addition to the home. They add elegant charm and classic beauty unlike any other houseplant available.

Many people buy Boston ferns to adorn their decks and porches during the warm months of spring and summer. They grow beautifully in humid locations that receive plenty of indirect sunlight, but when the threat of frost arrives in the fall, they must be brought indoors if they are to survive.

While many ferns require shade to grow, the Boston fern is fond of lots of indirect light, such as that which filters through the rainforest canopy. When thinking of wild ferns, people envision dark, shady locations, but Boston ferns require lots of light. Place your Boston fern near a window that receives plenty of indirect sunshine. A bright east or west-facing window is an ideal location. They can endure dimly lit locations, but they won't flourish and grow.

Boston ferns prefer daytime temperatures that range from 65 to 75 degrees F. Evening temperatures should be a little cooler. Cooler temperatures reduce the chance of fungus developing. Temperatures ranging between 55 and 65 are ideal. Place your plant in a naturally cooler location of the home, or in a room where heat vents can be closed.

During spring, summer, and fall, apply a monthly dose of nitrogen-rich water-soluble houseplant food, diluted to half the recommended strength. Don't feed your Boston fern during winter months.
