T-12 Flourescent Light Bulb Phase Out

The U.S. Department of Energy’s fluorescent lighting mandate is official. As of July 1, 2010 magnetic ballasts most commonly used for the operation of T12 lamps will no longer be produced for commercial and industrial applications. Also, many T12 lamps will be phased out of production starting July 2012. All in the name of efficiency

What should I be prepared for?

• Manufacturers will be phasing out their production of T12 lamps and ballasts
• Progressively less availability of T12 lamps and ballasts
• Increased cost of T12 lamps and ballasts due to demand vs. limited supply
• To keep up with federal regulations of energy efficiency, manufacturers’ technology and production will be focused on T8 and T5 systems

Did you know?
Approximately 30 percent of all fluorescent lamps sold in the U.S. are still T12 technology. As a result of the T12 phase out, 70 percent of all T12 fluorescent lamps sold in the U.S. will be phased out come July 2012.

HOT ITEM OF THE MONTH

Batteries, putting them away for Winter

Save time and money by extending your 6V and 12V battery's life by keeping it fully charged and maintained while it is not in use, whether it is an automobile, motorcycle, ATV, camper, lawn mower or any other lead-acid battery. Discharged batteries lose their power and their life is shortened due to sulfation, but these automatic chargers and maintainers can recondition batteries and prevent sulfation from occurring. Make sure this winter when your vehicles, motorcycles, boats and lawn mowers are put into storage, that you have a Battery Tender charger hooked up to the battery to keep it healthy and ready for the spring!

From the Springfield Neighborhood News "This holiday season we are all concerned with the economy and shrinking budgets. As you shop and prepare gifts for giving over the holidays, rememberto buy recycled-content items whenever possible, and also to give with little or no wrapping, ribbons and bows (unless these will be used!). Placing a gift in a reusable shopping bag, or using the funny papers or an outdated map for wrapping is a fun, creative and enviromentally friendly way to share during this and every holiday season."
