Aloha Vacation Rentals
May 2014

Aloha,

Maui no ka Oi! (Maui is the Best!). Aloha Vacation Rentals is sending this email newsletter to all of its past and potential customers on a monthly basis (or sooner if we see any great airfare deals or we run any vacation rental deals). If you wish to unsubscribe, please do so at the link at the bottom of this email. We will cover getting to Maui and things to do while you are here. First a quote:

“I went to Maui to stay a week and remained five. I never spent so pleasant a month before, or bade any place goodbye so regretfully. I have not once thought of business, or care or human toil or trouble or sorrow or weariness, and the memory of it will remain with me always.” Mark Twain

Things to do on Maui

Should I drive to Hana? This is a common question as there is a certain amount of mystique surrounding going to Hana. The most important thing to remember about driving to Hana is the stops along the road are what is important not the end destination. If you are headed to Hana in a big hurry because that is your goal, you will miss all the good stuff and be sorely disappointed with Hana. Hana is merely a sleepy town along the way. Ideally purchase a guidebook or CD to use as you go to Hana and plan on being gone all day. Take lunch with you. DO stop at all the water falls and black sand beaches as you go. Also, go about 10 miles past Hana and visit Wailua Falls, some of the prettiest ones on Maui. Once that far, consider driving the rest of the way around Haleakala. It is generally quite passable and you will pass over some of the most recent lava flows on Maui.

So remember, plan on a whole day, get a recent guidebook or CD, take lunch and stop along the route.

Also consider leaving the driving to someone else, see here.

Eateries
Slappy Cakes

West Maui now has an interesting breakfast alternative. You sit down at a table with a built in griddle and they bring you the pancake batter and you make your own cakes. They have basic buttermilk, gluten-free and vegan, Okinawan sweet potato, chocolate and whole grain batters. You then order whatever items you want to mix in and the toppings and go at it. They have various side dishes and meats to finish out your meal. We particularly enjoyed the Portuguese sausage. Some of their sides have a Southern influence, such as the sausage gravy and chicken fried bacon. Really good way to start the day!
