The Maui Arts and Cultural Center (known as the MACC" to residents) is a wonderful venue considering how small Maui is. In addition to local cultural shows such as local artists and hula, it hosts touring musicians/stage plays/comedy productions in its most intimate settings. The main theater seats 1200 people and the smaller McCoy Theater seats only 300 people. We have been to many concerts where the musicians have remarked about how great the venue is and the fact that they enjoyed playing for a such a small and enthusiastic audience. On stage artists frequently respond to questions and requests from the audience.

Assuming an event of interest is showing while you are on island, we highly recommend that you make a reservation and go. Whether it is a local hula or musician or a touring stage production or touring musicians, you will have a great time and see what a wonderful venue this is for Maui!

Want one of the best dinners with Kapalua sunset views? Go to Merriman's.

Our favorite dish here is the monchong, but the nightly fish specials frequently are its equal. We suggest going about 30 minutes before sunset and having a glass of wine at the bar at the point. Then go up to dinner afterwards. Please make reservations ahead of time to assure that you have a seat for dinner. Chef Peter Merriman uses almost 100% locally grown/caught ingredients and it shows in the tastes and quality of the finished product.

This restaurant probably has the best views on Maui overlooking Kapalua Bay and the nightly sunset over Molokai. Location! Location! Location!

And for fun, get the locals version of a doughnut, "malasadas" delivered to you in a brown paper bag, just as if you were getting them at the local fair. Except these come with some of the best dipping sauce around.
