"What's New?"

BakingTech 2011 - Update
  • Wednesday's Keynote: J. Ramon Rivera-Cota - Sr VP for BBU.  J. Ramon Rivera-Cota is the Senior Vice President of Operations for Bimbo Bakeries USA and a member of the Bimbo Executive Committee.  You won't want to miss Mr. Rivera's presentation!
Ramon started with Grupo Bimbo in 1981 as a Manufacturing trainee and has been responsible for different positions in manufacturing, engineering and supply chain.  For the past 7 years, Ramon has served as the Head of Operations in Mexico.  In 2009 he was responsible for 33 production facilities with 15,000 employees.
  • Special Video Presentation by Morton Sosland.  On Monday, March 7, Chairman Rowdy Brixey will introduce a special video interview that he conducted with Morton Sosland, Editor-in-Chief of Milling & Baking News.  Morton was also president and chairman of the family-owned Sosland Publishing Company, a role that he has passed to his son, Charles.  Mr. Sosland is one of the baking industry's most influential thought-leaders.
In writing editorials and making speeches to business audiences, he has sought to emphasize the essential role of agriculture and agribusiness in America's role in the world.  An advocate of liberal trade policies, he presses for governmental and corporate actions meant to build the strength of an independent agriculture.

Be sure to come to hear his thoughts on the past, present and future of the baking industry.

  • Engineers Only Meeting - ARC FLASH SAFETY. Don't miss this year's Engineers Only meeting on Monday, March 7 at 8:00am.  You will learn about the dangers of arc flash and what you can do to make your facility and your employees safe.  Plan to join Session Chair Jeff Dearduff and speaker Mr. Ed Baldwin, Electrical Engineer for the Banner Day Company.  You can view the promotional video at the link below:
  • MarketPlace In-Motion.
It's all about the networking.

To increase opportunities for more one-on-one networking, the 2011 BakingTech Planning Committee is introducing "MarketPlace In-Motion" on Tuesday, March 8 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm.

On Tuesday only, the MarketPlace will move to the 4th floor where traditional table-tops and other restrictions will be eliminated.  Grab a drink at one of the many bars and network freely throughout the room as the 2011 MarketPlace gets in motion and networking shifts into high gear.

Get ready to get out from behind your tables and get moving around the room as ASB introduces "MarketPlace In-Motion."  Networking has never been this easy or this fun!
  • February 17 Registration Deadline. Only a handful of tables remain for the MarketPlace.  Be sure to send your registration today.
The deadline for registering for BakingTech 2011 is February 17.  All registration fees will increase by $50 after that date.  What are you waiting for?
  • ASB Members Invited to BEMA Welcome Reception.  ASB members who will be in Chicago on Saturday, March 5, are invited to join BEMA as we kick off the "best week in baking."  Please join us at our Welcome Reception from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm in the Halstead Ballroom (4th floor of the Marriott).  Connect with your friends in baking and warm up for the week ahead.
  • In Memorial.
Mr. S. R. Javalgekar, From Bombay, India, passed away on January 23, 2011.  He was a lifetime member of ASB and was always proud of the long association with the Society.
  • Remembering our Deceased Members.  During BakingTech 2011 we will be recognizing our industry friends who have passed away during the previous year.  Please send Kent Van Amburg (kvanamburg@asbe.org) the name and company affiliation of any ASB member who died during the past year.  Names must be sent by February 15 to be included.
