"What's New?"
Your Chance to Speak During BakingTech 2013

One of the benefits of ASB membership is the opportunity to present your ideas, new technologies, new products and other innovations to fellow ASB members.  In the past, the BakingTech Planning Committee has developed the topics based on member surveys and then sought out speakers on those topics from within our membership.  This year we are turning the process on its head and asking the members to present their ideas while also volunteering to give the presentation.  The Planning Committee will then review the submitted proposals and select speakers/topics based on the educational value of the proposals to our membership.

If you have ever wanted to give a presentation during BakingTech, now is your chance.  Speakers do not have to be members of ASB, but if selected, they will receive one year free membership and complimentary registration to BakingTech 2013.

The deadline for submission of the abstract/proposal is June 5.  Visit www.asbe.org and find all of the details and online submission forms in the drop down menu under "Conference".
Hall of Fame Nominations

The Baking Hall of Fame is an initiative of the American Society of Baking to recognize industry innovation and entrepreneurial spirit.  The individuals selected into the Hall of Fame are recognized for their achievements in organizational growth and development, equipment design and innovation, advancements in ingredients technology and processing or related service to the commercial baking industry.  Since its inception in 2005, 47 of the baking community's pioneers and leaders have been inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Nominations for the 2013 Hall of Fame are now being accepted.  If you nominated someone in 2011, you do not have to re-nominate them.  If you nominated someone prior to 2011, you will need to re-nominate them since the criteria and nomination process has changed.

Nomination forms can be downloaded here.
Help ASB Get New Baker Members

ASB needs more bakers as members.  We highly value our allied members and the numerous contributions that they make to ASB, but as they repeatedly tell us, "Get more bakers and the allieds will come."

For the next year, all new baker members will receive complimentary membership.  If you are an employee of a commercial bakery and have fellow employees who would benefit from ASB membership, urge them to join today.  If you are an allied member and have a bakery customer who you would like to see at BakingTech and during the MartketPlace, ask them to Join ASB for free as your guest.

We are confident that once the new members experience the educational and networking opportunities provided by ASB, they will renew their memberships and attend BakingTech 2013.

We need your help to identify and recruit new baker members.  Please take 5 minutes to contact a potential new member and have them join you as a member of ASB.

Please click here to download a complimentary 1st year membership form.

This Free Membership offer is only being offered to employees of commercial bakeries who have never been members of ASB or attended BakingTech.
Bakery Logistics: Eliminating Waste, Creating Profit

June 12, 2012
2:00pm - 3:00pm EST

Please join ASB for our FREE June event featuring Marc Braun of Pcdata.

For most bakeries, optimizing the order fulfillment and distribution are the areas with the greatest potential to improve the bottom line.  Much money is wasted as a result of over-staffing, loss of finished goods (unaccounted for), order fulfillment errors, and loss of material handling equipment.

In this seminar we will discuss some of the techniques and new technologies that are available to make order fulfillment easier and more accurate at the same time.  We will also look at how to track orders and baskets from production line to final delivery and in the case of the baskets also back to the bakery.

ASB encourages you to take an hour of your time to listen to this important and timely webinar.  The June webinar is open to all individuals in the industry, regardless of membership status.

MarketPlace Committee Volunteers Needed

Do you have ideas on how ASB's MarketPlace could be improved?  If you do, we need you to volunteer to serve on the MarketPlace Committee.

Changes in ASB and the MarketPlace, as well as the move to a new exhibit space at the Chicago Hilton in 2015, requires a new and expanded role for the MarketPlace committee.  The first task for the MarketPlace Committee will be to review the current MarketPlace Exhibitor Rules and Regulations to determine if they are meeting the needs of the exhibitors and the baker attendees.  The next step will be to develop the new rules and regulations, as well as the layout/floor plan of the new exhibit space at the Hilton.  The Committee will in all likelihood uncover other tasks that must be completed.

The majority of the work of the MarketPlace Committee will be accomplished through conference calls.  Any face-to-face meetings will take place during BakingTech in March in Chicago.

To volunteer to serve on this important committee, please send an email to Executive Director Kent Van Amburg (kvanamburg@asbe.org).
