 ASB Engineer and Maintenance Scholarships

ASB is continuing its Engineering/Maintenance Scholarship Program for 2017/18. Your summer engineering student interns and maintenance/machinist employees can apply for five $4,000 scholarships to help them reach their educational goals and advancement within your company.

The purposes of the scholarship program are:
  1. To provide financial support for university students who are pursuing a degree in engineering, have interned at a bakery and are interested in a career in the wholesale baking industry.
  2. To provide financial support for wholesale baking company employees who are pursuing additional training in maintenance/machine operations at a trade school, vocational institution or community college.
The recently released study commissioned by ASB and ABA, “ The Workforce Gap in U.S. Commercial Baking: Trends, Challenges and Solutions,” showed that the three areas of greatest need for skilled workers in the wholesale baking industry are engineers, machinists, and maintenance personnel. The ASB Scholarship Program was established to directly address these wholesale baking workforce needs.

If you have a summer internship program for engineering students and/or a relationship with an engineering program at a nearby university, please share this program with them and encourage them to apply. If current machinists and maintenance employees are interested in continuing their education and enhancing their skills by attending a program at a trade, vocational school or community college, please encourage them to apply.

Below are links to both the student and employee scholarship criteria and the application forms. The deadline for applying is June 1, 2017. Selections will be made by July 1 and awards will be made in time for the 2017/18 school year. Please share this with your HR director and other bakeries within your company.
