  • Recommendations for 2012 Executive Committee Nominations.
Do you know an ASB member who has the leadership skills and industry experience necessary to help guide ASB as a member of the 2012 Executive Committee?  Perhaps you have always wanted the opportunity to give back to the baking industry and ASB by volunteering on the ASB Executive Committee.

ASB is making the nomination process more transparent and open to the membership by seeking your recommendations for 2 bakers and 2 allied members to serve on the 2012 Executive Committee.  You may nominate yourself.

The Executive Committee is a three year commitment and entails participating in 1 hour monthly conference calls (third Wednesday of each month at 3:00 pm EST), a 2 day Board of Directors meeting in early October and the two day Executive Committee meeting held during BakingTech in March.

Attached is the recommendation form.  Please print it, fill it out, and fax it to ASB at 1.888.315.2612.

  • ISB Conference Postponement.
The 1st Annual International Society of Baking Middle East and Africa Conference and Expo, which were scheduled to be held in Muscat, Oman on December 10-12, have been postponed until a date, yet to be determined, in 2012.

The ISB will be refunding all delegates, sponsors and exhibitors, as well as sending back exhibit materials at their expense.  ISB will also bear the hotel cancellation charges.

Registration numbers were deemed not to be sufficient to support holding the conference at this time.  Different dates and venues, possible in connection with established food events in the region are being explored.

ASB and ISB apologize for the inconvenience and expense that the postponement has created for any of our members who planned on attending the Conference.

PROPOSAL
  • Establish a Board of Directors with the same composition and responsibilities as the existing Executive Committee.  This can be accomplished by replacing "Executive Committee" with "Board of Directors" in each instance where "Executive Committee" is currently referenced within the Bylaws.
  • The Officers, as currently defined in the Bylaws, then becomes the Executive Committee.  This can be accomplished by replacing "Officers" with "Executive Committee" in each instance were "Officers" is currently referenced within the Bylaws.

Chairman's Corner:

Quote: "Industry is the parent of success" ...Spanish Proverb

Quip: Wow!  How true that quote rings when you think about the American Society of Baking.  Although we are a society of individuals, if it weren't for all of the different components of our great industry ASB may not have a reason to be.

From the baking companies who sponsor their employees, to the suppliers and ingredients who support the conference and marketplace, coupled with the consultants, associations and educators, it takes EVERY element of the industry pulling together for ASB to succeed.

Thank you to the longtime members who are loyal to the Society, to the newer members who are still giving us the chance to show our value, and to those brand new members who are about to join our journey, I look forward to seeing you all RISE UP at BakingTech 2012.

Have a wonderful and blessed holiday season.
