Annual Rendezvous at Fort de Chartres – Prairie du Rocher, IL

Sun, June 8th
11:00 am

Meet on southeast parking lot at Wal-Mart-Telegraph Road at I-270, Oakville

The Annual Rendezvous offers an authentic period glimpse into the period from 1740-1840, a peek into the past when Illinois was governed by the French and the British.  Fort de Chartres began as a French military fort, turned over to British in 1765 after end of French and Indian War. British abandoned the fort, moving headquarters to Kaskaskia.

The Rendezvous reenactments present authentic period military demonstrations with rifle, musket, tomahawk and period artillery-cannon demonstrations with colonials featuring the use of looms, weaving, quilting, coopering and blacksmiths. Costumed reenactors portray colonial military units, mountain men, trappers, Native Indians, and much more of the period.

This tour will include a one hour drive southeast of St. Louis, over JB Bridge thru old Valmeyer and onto the stone fort. Food and beverages available on site.

Parking available – $5 for autos.

A NOTE FROM THE CARS & COFFEE GROUP

A NOTICE TO ALL CARS & COFFEE ATTENDEES - PLEASE READ

In April we had the best turnout ever with over 260 vehicles in attendance. However, this presented several major problems for us and for the retailers in the shopping center.

Because we want to be good neighbors and wish to continue to gather at this location, for this coming Saturday and all future C&C's, we ask that all attendees please follow a few simple rules:

1) Do Not Park in Handicap spaces. Police WILL issue tickets if you do.

2) Do Not Park in Employee of the Month spaces.

3) Be respectful of the retailers in the center - If they are open, leave several spots near their doors empty. Specifically, leave open the first 6-7 spots on either side of the lane in front of Stein Mart and the first 2 spots on either side of the aisle in front of Tuesday Morning. Be aware that both employees and customers of these stores need parking.

4) Keep in mind that the police in Rock Hill and surrounding cities know about Cars & Coffee - Don't do dumb things in the parking lot or near the center. We have a great relationship with the authorities and want to keep it that way.

5) Have fun!

We want to keep this location for its convenience and food. BUT we must have cooperation with all drivers, or we risk losing our privileges in a merchant lot. This is their place of business—you would feel the same way. Thanks and pass the word to others.
