" Metamorphosis. by Robin Maynard -Dobbs
When caterpillars make a chrysalis to transform into butterflies, the whole structure of the caterpillar dissolves into a liquid of many cells. Then what appears in this liquid is a body of cells called ”imaginal cells”. These cells can somehow envision themselves as a being with brightly colored wings floating on air. Even as other cells are resistant to change, the imaginal cells prevail in their organization and over time, create the structure of a butterfly. Emerging from the cocoon is a creature completely transformed into the light body and shimmering wings of butterfly.
At this time, we are all going through a process of metamorphosis. The pandemic has forced us to go into the cocoons of our own homes and become still. Facial masks cocoon our mouths and noses to protect us from floating germs. We don’t know how long this will last or when we will emerge. We only know that change has disrupted the old order, now the experience is one of chaos and disorientation. Thus, we enter the cocoon stage…we enter into the unknown, beyond the familiar comfort zone. We must let go of our old sense of self in order to create space so the new can emerge.
So, as the new emerges, what do we want to see? We are the imaginal cells on this planet. What if we could start envisioning a world that works better for all… in the words of Charles Eisenstein “ a more beautiful world our hearts know is possible.” What if we were to pull our attention towards creating new possibilities that welcome in a world with even more goodness, light and beauty than the past.
So maybe even in this moment, we can relax, take a breath, and open to wonder where this mystery may want to take us.… maybe towards a future that is more inclusive, harmonious and life enhancing than ever before.
