Rising from the Ashes
Notes from a Sensitive Soul

“Vulnerability feels like
my greatest strength. It is the most human quality that allows the beauty and horror of the world to impress itself upon our souls."

                               Frank Ostaseski

" Overwhelm"  by Robin Maynard -Dobbs

This past week is been too much, with the pandemic added to smoke from wildfires too dangerous to breathe, now finally clearing. Plus the administration trumps all, denying climate change when the evidence is literally in our face. As an empath, I feel the collective distress…rage at the incompetence, trapped inside the house (at least I have one). A river of tears for all the birds, deer, squirrels and bears that lost their lives in the fires, for all the green oxygen life giving trees now charred stumps…the black plume of smoke hangs in over our planet as a pall of doom.

The cells in my body are made of the same elements of the earth…I weep for her. I weep for the arrogance and greed that keeps taking without consequence. All that I hold precious and dear is disappearing. Is it too late to turn around?

So, how do we live in the midst of all this chaos and deal with overwhelm without going completely insane, or eating into oblivion or hunkering down into depression?

This is what I do:

I write furiously pouring out the angst on paper and ripping it up with just as much intensity

I splash paint on paper, layers of mess, oozing vivid color, raw and real expression of external and internal fury

While driving in the car, my voice howls, allowing heaviness in the heart and queasiness in the stomach to pour out in song.

I tap the endpoints of meridians using the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), to acknowledge, honor and respect all my feelings, as I am a human whose heart is breaking.

I join with others in my tribe on zoom.  As we share together, the despair becomes more bearable

I weep rivers of tears that wash my heart clean. I take a shower, renewed and rise again to be an emissary of life force. I devote my energy to serving the vast intelligence that beats my heart and spins the planets. I bow down in service and rise from the ashes dedicated to becoming a channel of goodness, light and hope … fierce, wild, passionate and free.

What do you do?
