" Peaches" by Robin Maynard -Dobbs
This morning I ate a ripe peach. I closed my eyes as sweetness exploded on my tongue, filling my mouth with joy. Exclamations of Oh my goodness! yummmmm … ohhhhh…. erupted from my lips as juice dribbled down my chin, a I fully savored the sensuousness of the moment, relishing the nectar of the gods.
I felt so blessed to be gifted with this fruit that came from the lush green growth of trees, the warmth of the summer sun, the rich soil and the welcoming showers of rain all wrapped up in this one amazing peach. I was in awe of the abundance this summer. Soon, peaches will no longer be at their prime. So this moment in time was all the more precious and delicious because of its fleeting nature.
Since we are at home, why not really take in what could already be right in front of you, in your very kitchen. You don’t have to go to Disneyland to experience magic.
Here is one secret I shall share with you. As soon as you take that first bite:
Close your eyes
Yes, it’s that simple. As soon as you close your eyes, all of your attention shifts from an outer focus to the inner sensation… you are no longer regretting the past or fretting the future. Your attention drops down out of your head, you come to your senses to fully experience what is here now…. and when your attention is really in this present moment, you feel vibrantly alive! As one client puts it,
“ You mean instead of worrying about what I should eat today in order to control my weight and then judging myself for any slips, all I need to do is close my eyes when I eat?! That is all I need to take me into ecstasy? When I do this one thing, there are no shoulds no "have to” and no judgment. This moment with this bite into a grape is enough…. delicious and satisfying.”
