Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching


Congratulations to the Presidential Awardees for 2014 and 2015. The awardees received their awards in Washington in September. They are:

2014: Andrew Kotko , a first grade teacher at Mather Heights Elementary School in the Folsom Cordova Unified School District (K-6)

2015: Maria McClain, a high school teacher at Deer Valley High School in the Antioch Unified School District (7-12)

The 2016 State Finalists have been announced. They are:

• Mrs. Anamarie Buljan (Mia), a second grade teacher at Glassbrook School in the Hayward Unified School District

• Mrs. Gabriela Cardenas, a first/second/multiage Dual-Language Demonstration Teacher at the UCLA Lab School in Los Angeles

• Ms. Rebecca Jones, a fifth grade teacher at Ocean Air School in the Del Mar Union School District in San Diego

• Mrs. Nancy Villalta, a fourth grade teacher at Moffett Elementary School in the Lennox School District

CMC Conference Deadlines

The deadline to preregister for the 57th Annual CMC South Conference is October 19. After that date you will need to register onsite at the conference on November 4 and 5 in Palm Springs. For questions about conference registration, email office@acemgmt.com.

The early bird discount for the CMC North Conference is October 22. Preregistration will be open until mid-November.

Remember to register as a member using your member number list above.
CMC North Section Mini-Grant

CMC-North wishes to encourage creativity and innovation among its member educators in Northern California and Northern Nevada for the purpose of developing mathematically powerful students. NCTM's 2016 Board of Directors election is now underway. In this year's election, the President-Elect, one Director at the High School level and three Directors At-Large will be elected. This is a unique opportunity to help select future leaders by casting your vote for the candidates of your choice. Members should have received a link to the voting site. The CMC Central Symposium is March 10 and 11, 2017 and will take place in the San Luis Obispo area. This year's theme is Beyond Buzz Words - Digging Deeper with keynote speaker Peg Cagle. Look for registration information later this winter.
