Checking ID's is important in reducing underage drinking.  When in doubt-check it out!
  • Does the face on the ID photo match the person buying alcohol?
  • Is the license expired, or is there evidence of tampering?
  • Is the license format valid in the issuing state? Licenses using out-dated formats are often red flags for a fake.
  • Validate other security details. Ghost images, UV images, state seals, and other security features are present on virtually every modern license
  • Train, train, and train some more. Validating IDs is skill that improves with practice and proper training. Don't expect employees to figure it all out on their own.

The PEAK Mentoring program would like to take this time to give an update on the events of March 2021. The PEAK Mentoring program has been teamed up with the Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library since last June 2020 with a free lunch and activity program occurring every Wednesday. We are happy to announce that we officially gave away our 3000th meal and plan to keep the program going for as long as possible. PEAK Mentors added two new matches to the program last month! Jennie and Mark Mulenburg are airline pilots that were matched with male and female siblings putting the program's total matches at 5. The volunteers of our program are helping mentees form positive relationships to negate adverse childhood experiences (ACES), and thank you for volunteering your time to help at-risk youth. PEAK Mentors is receiving mentee referrals from the local schools and we need mentors. If you are interested in becoming a PEAK Mentor and developing a positive relationship with an at-risk youth. Please contact Shannon Payne at elizabethtonmentors@cartercountydrugprevention.org or call 423-791-8674.
