Our February Outstanding Coalition Member is:
Tyler Wright
Northeast Regional Health Department
I work for the Tennessee Department of Health as the Regional Health Council Coordinator. In this role I work closely with the Carter County Collaborative to help facilitate meetings.
The CCDP stands out to me because of the amazing work that they do with Carter County. It always amazes me how far reaching their work goes. In my role I work with 7 counties in the Northeast Tennessee Region and there are always folks asking how they can get connected to the CCDP.
My favorite part of the CCDP is the people. Everyone I have met through the CCDP are amazing people, working hard to make a difference in the lives of those they serve.
We are so grateful for Tyler and the way he supports our program. We would not have a successful CCC without his help!

The 21st annual American Lung Association "State of Tobacco Control" report evaluates states and the federal government on the proven-effective tobacco control laws and policies necessary to save lives. The report serves as a blueprint for what state and federal leaders need to do to eliminate the death and disease caused by tobacco use. In the report, the Lung Association assigns letter grades, A through F, to the state and federal policies best proven to prevent and reduce tobacco use.

2018-2019 Tennessee Together Student Survey
Age of First Substance Use
Total Surveyed: 320*
Total Age of First Prescription Drug Misuse...13.46
Total Age of First Alcohol Use...13.36
Total Age of First Cigarette Use...12.88
Total Age of First Electronic Cigarette Use...13.56
Total Age of First Marijuana Use...13.79
As you can see from this data, ages 12-13 is a critical age for Carter County youth. It is important to begin prevention efforts before these ages.
*The participant sample size for Carter County did not meet the minimum target sample size for 8th and 10th grade students. Therefore, data presented for 8th and 10th grade students should be interpreted with caution as it may not truly represent all 8th and 10th grade students in the county. Only eighteen 12th grade students participated in the survey and were therefore dropped from the following analysis due to concerns about bias.
School Unweighted Weighted % of Weighted
Cloudland High School 76 333 26.3%
Hampton Elementary 74 146 11.5%
Hunter Elementary 26 98 7.8%
Unaka Elementary 23 62 4.9%
Unaka High School 57 348 27.4%
T A Dugger Junior High School 64 280 22.1%
