CCDP Field Day
by Emma Carpenter on May 24th
Kicking off on May 18th, at Elizabethton’s Parks and Recreation was CCDP’s Field Day! With a new Harry Potter theme, children were provided capes, t-shirts and received medals. Kids could also purchase pizza, soft drinks and other snacks after participating in a long day of fun.
For field day we had all the classics such as: kickball, the three legged race and crazy clothes. Of course we couldn’t have a Harry Potter Field Day without the most prized sport in all of Harry Potter…Quidditch!
I was given the opportunity to be one of the Quidditch coaches along with CCDP Youth Coalition Vice President, McKenna Marr. Though it took time to describe the many rules of the game, the kids listened attentively and were able to start fairly quickly. They chose positions or were open to being told which position was best. Some children even volunteered to be the golden snitch; The golden snitch was a player assigned with keeping a flag away from the two seekers.
I’m grateful that I could assist in field day and get to see so many youth from within our community. It truly was a day of fun for all.
