Worth sharing? The Expoartesano Fair and the Pride
Parade!
MEDELLIN'S GOT PRIDE
photos and write-up by Jose Nasca
On Sunday, thousands of people –young and old- gathered in the center of the city to dance and to show in public thta love comes in all shapes, races, and genders. The LGBTIQ+ community of Colombia celebrated love and unity through the traditional annual march.

The parade included trucks especially pimped out for go-go boys, DJs, queen queers of the gay scene in Medellín and a musical march with their own dancers who, despite the high temperatures, never paused their killer moves. There was even representation from the Itagüí municipality (thumbs up to their mayor).

It all started at the Barbacoa’s sector at 11:00 am when little by little, men with colored wigs arrived, then came families with posters that said “I love my gay son” or “we are two men and our son is straight” in support of homoparental adoption. From that point until the final stage all we saw was smiley couples kissing without fear, men dancing like nobody’s watching and NPO claiming their rights.

It all ended with a cultural event in the Plaza de Las Luces.
Another beautiful day in Medellin!

CRAFTS AND COOL SHIT I WANNA BUY
BY: XIMENA (PHOTOS BY EXPOARTESANO)
I stopped by the Artisan expo on Saturday and decided I don't have nearly enough money to buy all the things I want. The fair is divided into regions, all placed into different pavilions. From The Amazon to the Pacific, to our very own Antioquia and beyond, every single artisan was killin' it.
I was particularly attracted to the home decor section, the jewelry, and the little knick-knacks I always tell myself not to buy (but do anyway).
The talent and the charisma at the fair blew me away. Also, these artisans have hella cute children sporting their best work and my ovaries melted.
You still have time to go! Last day of the fair is Sunday, July 8th.
EXPAT TIPS BY XIMENA
  • Linking a Paypal to a Colombian account isn't worth it.
  • Like Mercado del Rio but live in Laureles? There's something coming your way. (more info soon!)
  • We recently got Indian food at the Guatapé-Famous Kushbu, in LAURELES!
