Continuing the Restless Journey of Life

"Our Hearts are Restless Until They Rest in You"
~ From the Confessions of Saint Augustine of Hippo

It was a busy, yet constructive, day on April 27th as a good group of guy's gathered to greet Fr. Tom McCarthy, O.S.A. to encounter the Resless Journey of Life. We are sorry that several deacon's could not be there because they had to attend a funeral, and several other men who usually attend where out of town.

As the groups of men gathered to discuss and connect the dots with each other on their spiritual journey, some of the common themes presented from each group were:
Restless Souls keep in motion; Fear is a thief; God sends Angels to help us through our fears; Never quit - embrace fear; As we step forward we also stumble (Parable of the Prodigal Son); Pray more and make room for God in planning our time; Holy Adoration is key to cure when it is hard to spend time with God and how He talks to us; willingness vs. willfulness - 'thy will be done' does not mean our will be done; the decisions we make affect others; we need the 'nagging' of St. Monica praying for us.

Other highlights of the morning where a hot breakfast with Christian fellowship, and the closing Mass with Bishop Perry. Below are some of the commens the man shared on their response cards:

"Excellent! Fr. Tom's presentation was outstanding!"

"Awesome experience."

"Both inspirational and moving."

"Father Tom was great!! .. can we have him as speaker again!"

"Always brings us more to think about."

"Eventful and Thought Provoking!"

"A+ event. Thank you for facilitating [this] event."

"It [the restless journey] reminded me to keep a balance between the tortoise and the hare."

"First time - very impressive. Will promote to men's Holy Name and Knights of Peter Claver."

"This was a challenge to admit you need to change."

"Very influential and moving."

"Bishop Perry is a Godsend."

Two resources to continue the encounter and journey are the reading material (and online discussions) from the Confessions of Saint Augustine that Fr. Tom used as the basis of his presentation, and how to be a CMCS-Man and Bishop Perry's Virutes of a Catholic Man presented at the closing challenge.

Testimolinals
“CMCS has been a great help in my walk with Christ on a daily basis.  I am surrounded by secular surroundings everyday and CMCS brings me “home.”  This group of men keep me grounded and express charity and humility, which is not easy to find these days.  The opportunity to listen to the wisdom of Bishop Perry is always enlightening and helps me in my growth in understanding the beauty of the Catholic faith.”

Tim

“My benefit from CMCS comes from the community of men I gather with and, our shared, interests, desires, and struggles with leading a Christian life.  Our community helps me realize that I am not alone as I strive to be a servant of God.  In this age where we race from chore to chore, and responsibility to responsibility CMCS provides me an opportunity to take time and think about God.  A time to step back to think about where I am at, where I have been, and where I want to be in God’s eyes when I enter eternity.  Of course the wisdom and guidance provided to us through the words of Bishop Perry are as the commercial says ………….. PRICELESS.”
