The Christmas octave is an eight-day observance in the Catholic Church that starts on Christmas Day, December 25, and concludes on January 1, known as the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. Each day within this timeframe is regarded with the same reverence as Christmas, enabling ongoing reflection and celebration of the Nativity of Jesus.
As we observe the Christmas Octave may we embrace this new year as one of forgiveness and grace. No matter what mistakes we may have made in the past, God's love for us never wavers. He forgives us and never holds our failures over our heads. As 1 Corinthians 13 says, love keeps no record of wrongs. Instead, we should focus on living a Godly life and treating each other with kindness and forgiveness. We all have a common goal of reaching heaven, and as Christians, it is our duty to help one another on this journey. Let us leave behind the past and focus on the present, bringing reconciliation and love into our relationships. This is the true message of Christmas, one that we should carry with us into the new year and beyond.

As men of prayer, we humbly recognize the ever-present hand of God in our lives. He never fails to provide, especially when we place our trust in Him. To those who are married or have families to lead, we urge you to see your spouse and children as precious gifts, to be cherished and treasured. Rather than dwelling on the daily chaos, embrace the endless joy and love they bring to your home. Rejoice in their presence, for just as God delights in them, He has purposefully placed them in your life to reveal this undeniable truth.

To turn away others is to turn away God,

pope says on Christmas Eve

Celebrating the birth of Jesus, Pope Leo XIV said whenever people make room for the human person, they are making room for God.

"While a distorted economy leads us to treat human beings as mere merchandise, God becomes like us, revealing the infinite dignity of every person," he said in his homily Dec. 24 as he celebrated the nighttime liturgy in St. Peter's Basilica.

CELEBRATING THE NEW YEAR

From us at CMCS a very blessed, safe, and prosperous New Year!

The message below is by Chicago priest, Fr. Mike Nacius. May the Lord bless you, and bless others because of your love for them.

May these following rules for holiday drinking and entertaining help us properly celebrate with family and friends.

JUST ONE DRINK CAN HURT YOU – Drink only if you can. If you cannot drink or have been told not to drink, or if you take medication which does not mix with alcohol, don’t drink.

HIGH TOLERANCE FOR ALCOHOL IS A BAD SIGN – Don’t drink more then one drink per hour. If you can drink more than this without any effect, you have a symptom of the disease of alcoholism.

NOT DRINKING IS OKAY TOO – Don’t drink if you ‘don’t drink.’ Saying, ‘No thanks’ will not offend your host or hostess.

DRUNK DRIVERS KILL PEOPLE – If you plan on having a really good time, then plan on not driving.

THE CALENDAR HAS NO EFFECT ON THE EFFECTS OF ALCOHOL – Never say, ‘Aw, c’mon, it’s Christmas!’

HAVE NON ALCOHOLIC CHOICES – LET YOUR GUESTS CHOOSE – Don’t give a guest who doesn’t drink a hard time. Don’t argue with someone who says ‘no thanks’.

DO NOT POSISON YOUR GUESTS – Don’t serve more than one drink an hour to any guest. Don’t serve drinks over a long period of time before serving food.

DRUNK DRIVERS KILL PEOPLE – Hot coffee or cold towels only make a drunk person awake, not sober. If a guest gets drunk, don’t let him or her drive. Get a ride, call a cab or let them sleep.
