Men in the Morning Saturday at IJP Parish
Gentlemen,

This coming Saturday, February 8th is the second Saturday of the month when Men in the Morning will gather again in the IJP Church Hall from 7am to 8am. We share our thoughts on the Gospel for the coming Sunday from Matthew where Jesus tells his disciples that they are the light of the world.

At first glance, it seems like a pep talk for the disciples. But what good is faith if it is only a set of beliefs inside your head or words that you speak. Or, as the saying goes, you can't just talk the talk, you have to walk the walk, in spite of the inconvenience or the cost or what it may prevent you from doing instead or, sometimes, the blow back. That can take you out of your comfort zone! Why would we do this? Out of a sense or sacrifice or to be admired? Elsewhere in Matthew's Gospel, Jesus says, "...I desire mercy, not sacrifice." Let us continue to learn and practice spreading love and mercy in a suffering world in need of healing.

I'm sure we'll hear some new perspectives on this familiar Gospel. Come listen to others' thoughts on the Gospel or you may feel compelled to share yours. No need to RSVP, no need to bring anything, just show up at 7am Saturday. Enter the West door off the parking lot. We finish at 8am, plenty of time for the needs of the day to follow.

Peace,

Mike Hoffman

Gospel  MT 5:13-16

Jesus said to his disciples:
“You are the salt of the earth.
But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned?
It is no longer good for anything
but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
You are the light of the world.
A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden.
Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket;
it is set on a lampstand,
where it gives light to all in the house.
Just so, your light must shine before others,
that they may see your good deeds
and glorify your heavenly Father.”
