From Today's Readings:

Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary

Alleluia Jn 13:34

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
I give you a new commandment:
love one another as I have loved you.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Children listen to what we say, and observe our actions. This is no matter if we are a parent, an uncle, or family friend.

The closer our practice is to our preaching, the more our children respect our faith.

When our children get older, it is never too late to share regret for failing to be a child’s example, and then live out a changed life.  This can also be a good time to visit your priest for confession.

Because, dealing with past failures is the first step to renewed relationships with our children.

As the scripture says from above:

34 “I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. 35 This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

How does Jesus say we do this?

He said in reply,

"You shall love the Lord, your God,

with all your heart,

with all your being,

with all your strength,

and with all your mind,

and your neighbor as yourself."

A similar verse reads:

Take no revenge and cherish no grudge against your own people. You shall love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD.  LEVITICUS Chapter 19:18

Thus, “I give you a new commandment” puts Jesus on a par with Yahweh. The commandment itself is not new.  Yet it is not a suggestion, but a commandment. To love.

Because, as a Catholic man, our example of love may be the closest thing to Jesus a child may experience. And when married, the way we love our wife is the best gift we can give our children.

Thanks for Reading.

"It is a defined dogma of the Catholic Church, revealed by the Holy Spirit and preserved from any possibility of error, that the Body and Blood,Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ are truly and substantially present in the Most Holy Eucharist."  CCC 1373-1375.  Eucharist is not a symbol.  The Mass is not a pageant or play acting or a skit anymore than the Lord's horrendous death on the cross was a skit.
