A quick update - The CMCS Fall Appeal: Only support from those who value our work can keep this apostolate going.
We need to raise $1,000.00 to function debt free the CMCS Apostolate and online ministry through December 2025, as well as provide seed monies for our live Forum next spring. So far 30% of this goal has been met.
Our online outreach ministry is free to access, but not free to make.
And if you cannot give,
please pray. Thank you!

Sunday Gospel for September 21, 2025
Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Luke 16:10-13
Jesus said to his disciples:
"The person who is trustworthy in very small matters
is also trustworthy in great ones;
and the person who is dishonest in very small matters
is also dishonest in great ones.
If, therefore, you are not trustworthy with dishonest wealth,
who will trust you with true wealth?
If you are not trustworthy with what belongs to another,
who will give you what is yours?
No servant can serve two masters.
He will either hate one and love the other,
or be devoted to one and despise the other.
You cannot serve both God and mammon."

I recently read an article that resonated with my own experience of purchasing a home on a single income. It highlighted the importance of setting realistic expectations, which was a crucial part of our journey. While my wife and I had to adjust our standards and choose a more modest house, this decision ultimately offered us greater financial stability. By doing so, we ensured that we could maintain our lifestyle even in the face of unexpected challenges, such as job loss. This approach taught us valuable lessons about prioritizing long-term security over short-term desires. |
|
The article talked about Supporting a large family on a modest income in America can indeed be challenging, yet many families have proven that it is achievable through frugality, strategic planning, and a thoughtful shift in priorities. Importantly, numerous families have highlighted that the critical factor is not solely the income level, but rather the expectations and lifestyle choices they adopt. For example, one family has successfully raised nine children on a single income since 2000, demonstrating how living modestly—by utilizing older vehicles, opting for camping trips or staying with friends for vacations, and minimizing dining out—can make a significant difference. They emphasize the importance of prioritizing needs over wants, ensuring that they allocate sufficient resources for essentials, savings, and charitable contributions. |
|
Many families are adopting a strategy that prioritizes home ownership over renting, which can lead to substantial savings over time. To further cut down on expenses, they often rely on effective budgeting, purchasing used or hand-me-down items, and preparing meals at home. For instance, one family has impressively managed to spend just $50 per week on groceries for five members, thanks to their diligent meal planning, use of coupons, and commitment to home cooking. Another family, also with five children, successfully achieved a debt-free status by embracing a lifestyle focused on simplicity, enjoying home-cooked meals, and engaging in occasional, budget-friendly trips. These practices highlight the effectiveness of mindful spending and resourcefulness in achieving financial stability. |
|
The decision to have one parent stay home is often central to a lifestyle focused on family well-being, as it allows for full-time childcare and can significantly reduce expenses related to external care. This choice typically stems from a desire for family stability, stronger bonds, and a simpler, more grounded life. Many families have discovered that even a modest income, particularly in high-cost areas like Southern California, can be sufficient when paired with a low-cost lifestyle. For instance, one family successfully manages life on a single income by prioritizing family time and maintaining realistic expectations, showcasing that financial comfort can be achieved through thoughtful choices and a focus on what truly matters. |
|
Financial strain can be a significant challenge, particularly during times of low income or unexpected expenses. Many families have encountered difficult years, leading to increased stress and uncertainty. However, numerous individuals report that the emotional rewards, such as strong family connections and a profound sense of purpose, often outweigh these hardships. The journey through financial ups and downs can resemble a roller coaster, filled with both stressful moments and joyful experiences.
Ultimately, success should not be measured by wealth alone, but rather by the ability to meet basic needs, cultivate love, and build a stable and fulfilling life.
