Adrenal Fatigue Syndrome: Cortisol Low, Morning No Energy
CHI HEALTH LETTER June 26, 2015

Featured Stories

R.S., a 70 y/o/m patient from CA has low energy in the morning when he wakes up and opens his eyes at 7:30, but doesn’t have the energy to get out of bed until 8:15. After 30 minutes he is still tired so he has to sit down on the sofa for an additional 30 minutes and doesn’t prepare breakfast until after 10:00. He eats lunch at approximately 2:30 and experiences a crash in energy an hour later so he often naps for 30-45 minutes. Upon waking up, he has a lot of energy up until midnight. Dr. Chi told R.S. he has adrenal fatigue and hypoglycemia (insulin resistance). Hypoglycemia is one of the causing factors of adrenal fatigue. Dr. Chi recommended that he take Chi Energy and Oxypower in the morning when he wakes up to increase cortisol and boost energy levels . After lunch, he takes Diabend, Oxypower and Myomin for insulin resistance to prevent his energy from crashing. In addition, he takes Chi Happiness before dinnertime and Relaxin 30-60 minutes before sleep to reduce cortisol to decrease anxiety and allow him to sleep better.

Chi Energy- use in the morning and afternoon to improve adrenal gland function and reduce fatigue.

Oxypower- use in the morning and afternoon to improve heart and lung function and increases energy.

Chi Happiness- helps to block cortisol. When people are stressed, the adrenal gland produces cortisol, and prolonged high cortisol levels can lead to depression. Use in the late afternoon and evening to reduce cortisol. Many users’ laboratory reports show improvement after taking Chi Happiness.

Relaxin- improves GABA receptor activity, improving sleep. Take 30-60 minutes before sleep for insomnia, and can also be used during the daytime to reduce anxiety and mood swings. Many users report good results within 2 weeks after taking Relaxin.

Myomin-reduces the conversion of testosterone into estradiol. Elevated estradiol can increase belly fat and the risk of hormonal related disease, even cancers.

Most doctors treat adrenal fatigue with bioidentical hormones such as pregnenolone, DHEA, and progesterone-Dr. J. Wright recommends that BHRT users add Myomin.

Figure 1 shows the biochemical pathway of the steroid hormones in our body. In the adrenal gland pregnenolone converts into progesterone and then converts into cortisol. Also, progesterone converts into pregnenolone and DHEA. Then, DHEA converts into testosterone, which converts into estradiol. Cortisol, DHEA, and testosterone all help boost energy for adrenal fatigue.

Dr. G. Depke, ND from CA, has a 47 y/o/f patient who is taking progesterone and DHEA and is still not feeling well, so she had her saliva level checked in September 2012. The patient still had a high margin estradiol (E2) level of 10.4 pg/mL (Reference level 1.5-10.8 pg/mL), a very high progesterone level of 523 (Reference level 127-446 pg/mL) and a low Pg/E2 ratio of 50.29 (Reference range 200-600), which may lead to cancer.

Dr. Depke asked that she take the Myomin right away. Table 1 shows the results before and after of adding in Myomin after taking 3 capsules twice a day.

Table1:

On January 2013 after 4 months of taking the Myomin, her E2 dropped to 1.6, her progesterone dropped to 387.9, and her Pg/E2 ratio increased to 242.44, which are all within the normal range. This proves the theory that BHRT users need to add in Myomin. Dr. J. Wright, MD from WA, recommends that BHRT users take Myomin, an aromatase inhibitor, to reduce the amount of testosterone converting into estradiol. (Reference: Townsend letter, January 2010)
Dr. M. Perkins, DOM from FL, has a 48 y/o/f patient who is very hyper and has difficulty sleeping. Her morning saliva test results show a cortisol level of 5.7 ng/mL (Reference range in the morning is 7.0-10.0 ng/mL ), indicating that she has low cortisol levels in the morning. She has average cortisol readings in the midday and afternoon of 4.1 and 3.5 ng/mL respectively (Reference range for midday is 3.0-7.0 ng/mL and afternoon is 2.0-4.0 ng/mL).Finally, her evening cortisol level is high at 4.9 ng/mL when it should be less than 1.5 ng/mL, leading her to have trouble falling asleep at night. Dr. Chi suggests that she take Chi Happiness in the afternoon to reduce cortisol and Relaxin 30-60 minutes before bed. Since she also has fibrocystic breasts, Dr. Chi also recommends that she take Myomin to keep testosterone from converting to estradiol and causing estrogen dominance. In Figure 2, the patient’s cortisol pattern throughout the day can be seen in red, and it shows that the cortisol level for morning and night is abnormal.

Figure 2:

Dr. G. Adams, MD from FL, had a 66 y/o/ m patient who had slightly elevated cortisol in the morning and experienced a sharp spike at night, resulting in an inability to fall asleep. In July 2013 (See Figure 3 and Table 2) he had his cortisol tested and had a level of 10.9 ng/mL in the morning (Reference range 3.7-9.5 ng/mL) 2.5 at noon, 2.9 in the evening, (Reference ranges 1.2-3.0 ng/mL and 0.6-1.9 ng/mL respectively), and 16.1 at night. (Reference range 0.4-1.0 ng/mL) Dr. Adams recommended Chi Happiness, Myomin, and Angiostop because the patient also had an adrenal granuloma for many years. His estradiol in serum was 50 (Normal range should be less than 30)and after taking Myomin for 3 months, it decreased to 15. After 8 months of being on Dr. Chi’s protocol, his adrenal tumor reduced, and his adrenal function improved. (See Figure 4 and Table 2) The patient had his saliva tested in March 2014. His morning cortisol level dropped to 6.5 ng/mL, his noon cortisol level dropped to 2.4 and his evening cortisol decreased to 2.3. Finally, his night cortisol dropped significantly from 16.1 down to 2.9, and now he sleeps better. Dr. Adams said whenever his patient’s cortisol level is high, he gives his patient Chi Happiness, and the patient’s cortisol level drops in half within a week.
