Managing Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) and Prostatitis
CHI HEALTH LETTER July 24, 2015
Do you sometimes see men leaning over the urinal and waiting for their urine stream to start? This may indicate that they have prostate issues.

These the important indications of an underlying prostate problem:

• Urgent Urination
• Frequent Urination
• Difficulty emptying the bladder

A weak urine stream and difficulty starting your urine stream are also indicators of prostate issues. Anyone under the age of 55 should not be getting up at night to urinate, and your urine should not continue to drip after urination.

These symptoms could indicate that you have BPH (enlarged prostate) or Prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate). Both issues cause abnormalities in urination and can often cause infection and further inflammation. Certain infections such as UTI’s (urinary tract infections) and bladder infections occur because urine stays in the bladder too long and bacteria begins to grow. Another indication of infection is split urination, when urination is not one singular stream and goes off in different directions. BPH and Prostatitis are directly linked to high levels of DHT (Dihydrotestosterone). Prosta Chi and Kidney Chi are recommended to help manage these infections.

Prostate Issues: High Conversion of Testosterone to Estrogen and DHT

Prostate issues are directly related to a man’s Estrone (E1), Estradiol (E2), Estriol (E3), and DHT levels. The main hormonal pathway is: DHEA converts to Androstenedione, then Androstenedione is converted into Testosterone, and finally Testosterone is converted into E2. The aromatase enzyme converts Testosterone to E2, Androstenedione to E1, and DHEA to E3. Testosterone can also convert into DHT through the 5- α reductase enzyme.

For men, this hormonal biochemical pathway occurs in the prostate, testicles, adrenals, liver, belly fat, and more. Men’s hair loss is a sign of elevated levels of DHT. Elevated levels of DHT cause BPH and Prostatitis. To reduce the conversion of testosterone into DHT, Prosta Chi is recommended, for it can partially inhibit the enzyme 5- α reductase activity.

Prostatitis could also be caused by an infection or by inflammation with no sign of infection. Kidney Chi is recommended for infectious prostatitis.

Elevated Estradiol (E2) and Estrone (E1) levels in turn cause elevated PSA levels, a prostate specific antigen that we test to screen for prostate cancer. E3> (E2+E1) and E2 < 30 in the blood (will be discussed in a future weekly newsletter). Myomin specifically reduces the DNA expression of the aromatase enzyme that converts Testosterone to E2 and Androstenedione to E1.

To prevent BPH, Prostatitis, and elevated PSA, men need to use Prosta Chi and Myomin together to reduce E1, E2, and DHT.

Physical Indications of Prostate Problems:

Estrogen dominance for men can mean various prostate issues. It is normal for teenagers to exhibit these strawberry red dots on their tongue, mainly on the sides and the back of the tongue, due to hormonal changes (puberty). But for men over 20 years old, these red dots still on their tongue indicate estrogen dominance (Fig 1). This estrogen dominance could lead to testicular issues or even testicle cancer for younger men, and also prostate issues or even prostate cancer for older men.

Shiny red dots that are raised above the skin’s surface are called cherry angiomas. Cherry angiomas found around the torso also indicate estrogen dominance as well as liver problems (Fig 2). If you have cherry angiomas at a young age, this indicates that you are already becoming estrogen dominant and this issue can be more serious. A greater number and size of the cherry angiomas also indicate more serious prostate issues and estrogen dominance.
Supplements for BPH & Prostatitis

Prosta-Chi helps reduce frequent urination, ease urine urgency, and relieves various discomforts associated with prostate enlargement. Mechanisms:
  • Accelerates the apoptosis (cell death) of the epithelial cells in the prostate tissue of BPH, by increasing Nitric Oxide Synthase (NOS).
  • Competitively antagonizes the sympathetic α1-adrenaline receptor, which relaxes the smooth muscle in the prostatic urethra and bladder neck. Improving urinary flow and decreasing BPH symptoms.
  • Reduces DHT levels by inhibiting 5- α reductase. DHT is responsible for prostate enlargement and hair loss in men.

In a double blind study on 678 BPH patient cases, Prosta Chi was effective for 76.55% of patients and showed improvement in 19.47% of patients (see Figure 3).

In another double blind study on 377 Prostatitis patient cases, Prosta Chi was effective on 78.25% of patients and showed improvement in 14.85% of patients (see Figure 4).

Myomin helps reduce estradiol and estrone levels, which in turn reduce PSA levels and improve prostate conditions. (Many other functions explained in other newsletters)

  • Reduces the DNA expression of Aromatase enzyme. This in turn reduces the conversion of testosterone to Estradiol and Androstenedione to Estrone.
  • ↑Testosterone ↓Estradiol ↓PSA ↓Belly Fat

I. Fox, MD from IN, has a 54-year-old-patient with moderately low testosterone and high estradiol. High estrogens are linked to low testosterone due to the aromatization of testosterone. The patient began taking Myomin, an aromatase reducer that reduces the conversion of testosterone into estrogens, and his testosterone sharply rose to 656. Even his free testosterone rose from 66.9 to 85. His estradiol levels dropped down to 24.2,within the safe male range of 6-30, and his HbA1c levels decreased to 5.2 (see Table 1). High estrogen levels are linked to insulin resistance and diabetes so reducing his estrogen also aided in reducing his blood sugar levels (HbA1c). He also lost 35lbs (275lbs to 240lbs).

Kidney Chi fights various infections such as UTI’s, bladder infections, and Prostatitis.
  • Natural herbal formula effective in inhibiting various types of bacteria and candida.
  • Effective in preventing kidney stones and sexual diseases.
BPH (Enlarged Prostate) & Prostatitis Case Reports:

M.N., a 71-year-old male with BPH suffered from frequent and painful urination. He would often get up 7-8 times a night to urinate. He began taking Proscar, a 5- α reductase inhibitor drug, for about a year without any results. He then started taking Prosta Chi and his urine flow improved to 9.5 ml/sec. After a month on Prosta Chi his urine flow improved to 16.2 ml/sec. His prostate functions have recovered and he only gets up to urinate 1-2 times a night. Proscar’s side effects include various issues such as impotence and abnormal ejaculation.

V.C., a 44-year-old male with prostatitis experienced a burning sensation in his perineal area and pain in the abdomen. His was also experiencing issues with sexual function. He took Cipro, an antibacterial drug, and other antibiotics for a year with no apparent effect. After taking Prosta Chi and Kidney Chi for 1 month, his conditions improved. After continuing on the herbs for another 2 months, all his symptoms cleared and his sexual function returned to normal.
Cipro is associated with an increased risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture for all ages.

L. Bazakos, DC from NY, has a 55 year-old male patient with BPH. He took Prosta Chi and Myomin for over a year. Now, his physician says that his prostate is soft and small like a young boy’s prostate.

D. Ring, RPh from Australia has a 61 year-old male patient also with BPH. He began taking Myomin, Prosta Chi, and Angiostop. After 3 years on the supplements, the size of his prostate significantly reduced from 285cc to 60cc.

Myomin is recommended for Men taking BPH Medication

People taking BPH drugs often have negative effects such as increased PSA and gynecomastia. This is because these drugs completely inhibits the 5- α reductase enzyme that converts testosterone into DHT (see Chart 1). This complete blockage causes the testosterone to build up and convert to Estradiol or Androstenedione (which can convert to Estrone). This in turn can make a man Estrogen dominant, causing the increase in PSA and even gynecomastia.
Prosta-Chi is a partial inhibitor of 5- α reductase, so it does not completely block the conversion of Testosterone into DHT.

R. Welch, DC from CA, has a 76-year-old patient with BPH has a PSA level of 3.82 in March 2011. To improve his prostate issues and lower his PSA, he has been taking the 5- α reductase inhibitor drugs, Terazosine and Finasteride (Propecia), daily. His PSA levels were still elevated. He then added Myomin and Prosta Chi. After 9 months his PSA levels reduced to 1.79, a much safer level (see Table 2). His BPH improved and his prostate issues cleared.

A 34 year-old-man was having early onset hair loss. His doctor put him on Propecia to lower his DHT levels and in turn try to stop the hair loss. His hair began to grow, but at the same time he started developing male breasts (gynecomastia). His male breast was caused by the excess testosterone converting into estrogens. He was extremely embarrassed when he went to the doctors to get a mammogram. They discovered a lump in his breast and they had to remove it. His doctor took him off Propecia, and he went to Dr. Chi. He is now taking Myomin to manage his estrogen conversion and Prosta-Chi for his hair loss (↓ DHT). He is also taking Lilly Hair Tonic and Jujuchi for hair growth.

The cause of his gynecomastia was due to Propecia blocking 100% of the 5- α reductase, which converts testosterone into DHT (see Chart 1). Propecia also depletes the levels of DHT, and men still need DHT. Excessively low DHT levels can also lead to prostate cancer. If a patient who was taking Propecia develops prostate cancer, this cancer will be very malignant and serious. ( Ref. J. Wright, MD)
Myomin reduces Estradiol and DHT in Gynecomastia Patient

B. Sanborn, DC from MI, has a 16 year-old male patient with gynecomastia (male breasts), which is caused by an imbalance in testosterone and estrogens. The patient has high Estradiol (300) and DHT (1,100) levels. After taking Myomin and Prosta Chi for two months his estradiol and DHT levels dropped significantly down to 70 and 250 respectively (Table 3). In a year his gynecomastia improved as well.

Myomin Increases Testosterone and Reduces PSA

R. Ornelas, DC from CA, has a 54 year-old male patient with BPH. He had difficulty urinating and had a very weak urine stream that would sometimes just drip. He had low testosterone (200 ng/dl, below the normal range of 300-750 ng/dl) and elevated PSA (8.7, well above the male range of <4.0). After taking Myomin, Prosta Chi, and Kidney Chi, his Testosterone increased to 540 and his PSA dropped steeply down to 2.4 (Table 4). His urine stream is also much stronger and has a better flow.

Summary:

• There are various indications (urination problems / frequent urination / split urine stream) that you may have an underlying prostate problem such as BPH or Prostatitis.

• Strawberry red dots on the tongue and cherry angiomas on the torso are both indications of prostate issues.

• Men can use Prosta-Chi to reduce DHT levels. High DHT levels are linked to BPH, Prostatitis, and hair loss.

• Men have to use Myomin to reduce Estradiol, increase Testosterone, and lower PSA Levels.

• Kidney Chi can be taken to fight various infections such as Prostatitis, UTIs, and bladder infections. Indications of these infections are painful urination, painful bladder, and split urine stream.

• Most BPH drugs can cause estrogen dominance, which in turn may cause elevated PSA levels and gynecomastia. Taking Myomin in conjunct with BPH drugs will correct the estrogen dominance.
