Monthly Newsletter - March 2024
SPRING HAS SPRUNG...
Wishing everyone in Huntsville and Madison County a great Spring Break and Happy Easter season!

Next week, our students at the CJC FBC Site will hit the mid-way mark of the semester. So far, in addition to their regular classes, these ladies have learned about finances and mortgages from Regions Bank representatives, had the privilege of hearing from speaker and author, Charles Holley, and have been matched with their Mentors.

We are also excited to partner with West Huntsville Baptist Church has the new home for our Men's Program. The men have successfully completed seven weeks of their 12-week Program for the Spring 2024 semester. We are so thankful to the congregation and staff at West Huntsville for their support of the CJC Men's Program.
Fall CJC Class of 2023 -
we are proud of you!

Sunday, March 10, 2024, CJC held its graduation ceremony for the Fall 2023 semester students. Graduation was held in the Chapel of First Baptist Church, Huntsville, with four of the five students who began the program graduating! In order to graduate, students must complete Phase 1, the classroom portion along with Phase 2, the mentorship.  Peggy Hewlett, Vanessa Hunt, Frances Scheuermann, and Jacqueline Takow successfully completed all of the requirements. In addition to graduating, several of these students have also accepted jobs and have begun new careers since starting the CJC program last August.

Graduation brings mentors, teachers, students and their families together in a time of celebration and reflection on the past six months. It is also an opportunity for graduates to have professional head shots taken by local photographer, Neville Simpson from

https://headshothsv.com/. Mr. Simpson, whose sister is a CJC graduate, has been volunteering his time and services to CJC for the past 21 years. We are so thankful for his continued support of our students.

Ladies, we are SUPER proud and grateful for each of you. Keep up the great work!

“I know God had a purpose for me in my life at just the right moment to connect with CJC.”
~ Carla Cobb, CJC volunteer.

After retiring from Dynetics, Inc. in 2007, Carla Cobb quickly put her human resources skills to use assisting with CJC career classes, eventually becoming the lead teacher for the course. She continued to teach career classes at the First Baptist Site for 15 years! Carla explains that to this day, she will run into former students out in community who come up and speak to her about their experience in her CJC class.

When asked why she continues to support CJC, she states, “I discovered early on that I was the one reaping the blessings from the relationships with the students each fall and spring session.” Carla describes loving to watch students blossom from barely speaking at Orientation each semester to being filled with confidence at the conclusion of the Program. “Seeing them flourish and gain confidence was such a joy, it filled my heart, and you could clearly see God working in these ladies’ lives,” Carla explains.
In addition to being a volunteer teacher, Carla was also a member of the CJC Executive Board, served on hiring committees, as well as volunteering in a variety of roles with Circles, the CJC annual fundraising luncheon, including serving as committee co-chair one year. And, she and her family continue to support CJC through their sponsorship of Circles annually.

Carla says “I will always have a special place in my heart for CJC and will continue to support the organization financially and with prayers.

”Having worked in almost all aspects of CJC, Carla says she understands “that each area is essential for the success and continued growth of the Program.” To her though, the relationships with students will always be high on her list as being the most vital work CJC does.

Carla also encourages others to support CJC. “You will be so blessed by the experience, regardless of where you might choose to serve -- the Board members, staff, volunteers, students all will touch your life in ways you can’t imagine,” she says, “I am beyond grateful for the experience I had all those years, so I would highly encourage anyone interested in giving it a try, you won’t regret it!!”

CJC is extremely thankful for Carla Cobb and her family for their continued support.
