Monthly Newsletter - November 2023
Welcome to our new monthly newsletter. It is our hope that you will find our content beneficial and that you will share what's going on with Christian Job Corps (CJC) of Madison County with others in your circles.

Celebrating 25 years, CJC continues to operate as a church and community model, incorporating Christian churches from throughout the county as well as health, educational, government, and business organizations who desire to “be a part of a ministry that equips men and women for life and employment; a ministry that provides a ‘hand up’ rather than a ‘hand out’.”
Circles Luncheon a Success!
Thanks to everyone who came to our Circles luncheon. It was such a wonderful event with almost 900 people in attendance. Special thanks to our Circles Committee Chairs Patrice Bishop and Ellyn Christian and their committee members. It would not be possible to put on such a large event without the guidance of this committee each year. In addition, our office staff and volunteers went above and beyond to ensure things ran smoothly.

And, thank you to Brewer Hicklen, our guest speaker, for bringing such a powerful message about living by the Spirit and challenging us to find, embrace and share our purpose with others.

Thank you to each vendor and each guest that attended and for your continued support of Christian Job Corps of Madison County. Mark your calendars now for next year's event, which is scheduled for Monday, November 4, 2024. We look forward to seeing you there!
Looking for a few good men!!
In addition to our two traditional sites that work with females, we are also launching a Men's Site. Keith Williams is our Site Director for this additional Christian Job Corps location, which will be housed at 233-F Stokes Street.

This program will offer Bible study, career coaching, personal finance and mentoring.  Keith has already been actively recruiting potential students for the upcoming semester.

Potential students can also apply via our CJC website. If you are interested in learning more about this Program, contact Nancy Eckhardt, CJC Executive Director at cjcdirector@cwjc.net or via phone at 256-428-9435.

Tuesday, November 28, 2023, is Giving Tuesday.

GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.

There are many ways you can give - Give time, Give gratitude, Give support.

Help a neighbor, adopt a pet, donate blood, support a local charity, encourage a stranger.  However, you choose to give, do it!

2023 Volunteer of the Year

At Circles, Jolene Vickers was announced as the 2023 CJC Volunteer of the Year.

Jolene has volunteered with CJC since 2002. Over the years, she has served as a board member, board chair, mentor, mentor trainer, bible study teacher and much much more. And, she has provided countless lunches to our students over the years.
She also advocates for CJC at local churches through speaking engagements.

Joelene has had countless memories with CJC, but when asked about her favorite memory she said, “when my mentee expressed that she felt like a ‘square peg in a round hole’ and I took that as my cue to
share the Gospel with her.”

Whether she is traveling with her husband Jerry, volunteering with her church or at CJC, it is certain that Joelene does what she does from her heart that is filled with grace, compassion, and love.

When asked why she gives of her energy, time and talents to CJC, she stated “I have the opportunity to serve women in need of God’s hope, both mentors and mentees.”

Hats off to you Joelene Vickers!! We appreciate ALL that you do!!
Wrapping up Fall 2023 Semester

Thursday, November 9, 2023, marked the end of our Fall semester at the First Baptist site. All five of the students who began the program in August have successfully completed Phase 1.

They each will continue Phase 2, which is the mentoring component of the Program. Students meet with their mentors 14 times plus an additional 14 phone conversations spanning 6 months. Upon successful completion of Phase 2, students will graduate from the Program.

Graduation for the Fall 2023 Class is scheduled for Sunday, March 10, 2024.

During this semester, each of the students were certified in CPR; attended the Chamber's Relaunch Job Fair; updated their resumes and LinkedIn profiles; learned more computer skills, participated in financial planning classes, business writing and Bible study along with hearing from a variety of special guest speakers.
Thank You, Lunch Providers!

Lunch is provided for our students each day they attend classes equaling 36 days of lunches.  These lunches are provided by individuals, church groups, and other community organizations. Special thanks to the over 20 individuals/groups who donated money, provided, and delivered lunches for our students this semester.

Please consider being a lunch provider for our Spring Semester.
Did you know?

Did you know that every student who participates in our program does so at NO COST whatsoever to the student?  All classes, materials, laptops, and lunches are provided by CJC during each 12-week semester.

And, did you know that every student who participates in our program is given a new Bible, weekly planner, bag of toiletries, journal, flash drive, and tote bag at the beginning of the semester?

In addition, did you know that CJC provides laptops and educational subscriptions for each student to use for classes and coursework?

All of these things are made possible by the generous donations from individuals and corporations across Madison County.
