The Equity Office logo and tagline
Good afternoon Equity Action Team,

We appreciate all who were able to join us last Friday for the meeting! I'm still working to pull everything together for a meeting follow-up, but we have some updates we needed to get out today.
February Equity Action Team Meeting

The February Equity Action Team meeting will be held Saturday, February 20th, from 10:00 AM-1:30 PM.

As a note, I heard from many of you that there were issues previously with accessing the Zoom link. When you receive a message that "only authorized users are allowed" all you need to do is log into a Zoom or Google account and it should let you in. I know this presents a barrier, but we're trying to balance access while also holding the space for you all to feel safe and secure.

We will begin posting these on Facebook going forward, so you can find all the information on this Eventbrite page, or keep an eye on this space as well. We will continue to send out participation details the week of and the day of the meeting.

Project Connect Feedback Needed

The Equity Office is seeking your input on the competencies and areas of work a contractor could help the City in the development of a Project Connect Equity Scorecard. This scorecard will work to guide the design and implementation for anti-displacement strategies related to these transit investments. We know that these are challenging times during the pandemic, so we truly appreciate your time and contributions.

Please complete the survey by January 28, 2021 and also please feel free to share this link with others that may want to provide their input.

APD Training Videos Community Review Report

At the meeting last Friday, we discussed the APD and Community Equity Assessment report, and were lucky enough to be joined by community who had participated in a review of the APD Training Videos. They have just released their report, accessible here. The findings connect to the findings on the Training Academy as a whole, as well as the very serious and growing racial profiling.
Request for Proposals and Mini-Grant Applications!

The Community Collaborative for Child Health is excited to recognize and support local initiatives that promote youth health and well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are pleased to announce an opportunity for schools and youth-based organizations to apply for a mini-grant in support of this year’s annual theme: Creating Calm in Chaos: Catalyzing youth and community action for health during COVID-19.

Huston-Tillotson Vaccine Rollout for the African American Community

On Monday, February 1st Huston-Tillotson University will host "Answering Question, Dispelling Myths,

Telling Truths," a panel conversation acknowledging the history of scientific racism and experimentation on the Black community, while also emphasizing the importance of the vaccine rollout for communities of color, who continue to be disproportionately impacted by Covid-19.

Community Reinvestment Act Update Seeking Comments

The Federal Reserve is seeking your feedback on updates to the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) through Feb. 16.

The CRA was designed to encourage banks to lend to all segments of a community and eliminate the illegal practice of redlining, or the discriminatory policies that historically prevented lending in mostly-minority neighborhoods.

The CRA is estimated to have brought $6 Billion to low-income communities in Texas, but more work is needed to bridge existing disparities.

Vaccination Information

Austin Public Health (APH) is excited to begin the process of vaccinating members of the public through vaccine clinics beginning this week. As you may be aware, the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) is piloting a regional vaccination hub program and APH is part of this pilot.

To register for an account and to see if an individual meets the criteria to be vaccinated, please visit AustinTexas.gov/COVID19-Vaccines

A phone line will also be available for those without internet or computer access. The APH Nursing Hotline is available Monday-Friday 8am-6pm and Saturday 9am-1pm at 512-972-5560. When calling the Hotline press 1 for English, 2 for Spanish, 3 for Vietnamese and other languages.
