Good evening Equity Action Team,
I hope everyone has had an opportunity to take some time and care for themselves over the past week. Without getting myself in trouble, I'll just say there has been plenty to feel discouraged about, and I am so thankful for Brion for always restoring my hope, as well as the rest of the Office for keeping me grounded and reminding me this stuff is real, and we're not the crazy ones for recognizing it.
See below for a couple updates on the Reimagining Public Safety work, |

April Equity Action Team Meeting
The April Equity Action Team meeting will be held Saturday, April 17th, from 10:00 AM-1:30 PM.
At the meeting, we will have Housing and Planning presenting on their plan for and gathering feedback on their use of federal funds. Transportation will be presenting on their "Equity Analysis Zones" project, a mapping and data analysis project intended to help City staff in understanding where and how systemic racism impacts Austin's residents.
As a note, I heard from many of you that there were issues previously with accessing the Zoom link. When you receive a message that "only authorized users are allowed" all you need to do is log into a Zoom or Google account and it should let you in. I know this presents a barrier, but we're trying to balance access while also holding the space for you all to feel safe and secure.
If you would like to add this meeting to your calendar, you can do so with these links:

Townhall on Public Safety: Rescheduled Date!
On May 21, please join us for the People with Disabilities and Policing Public Safety Townhall. This event will specifically center and focus on the experience of people with disabilities with our public safety enforcement agencies, and how the intersection of other oppressions impact this experience. As we work to reimagine and work with community to define public safety, it will be work like this focusing on the multiplying impacts of oppression that are critical to frame our way forward. |

LGBTQIA+ Quality of Life Study
The City of Austin LGBTQ Quality of Life Advisory Commission and Equity Office are working with HMA Community Strategies to lead an LGBTQIA+ Quality of Life Study. Among many benefits, this study allows the Commission and City to better understand the community’s strengths and diversity and more effectively advocate for its needs. The study consists of qualitative and quantitative data collection including interviews, town halls, focus groups, and a community survey.
Please see the attachments, which will take you to the LGBTQIA+ Community Survey to ensure your voice is heard! And, please share with your networks.

Austin Transportation Seeks Community Partner for Bloomberg Grant
This year, Bloomberg seeks additional cities to apply to their Asphalt Art Initiative grant program. As part of the grant, there can be only one submission per city and that city must sponsor the submission. One community partner will be accepted to co-apply with Austin Transportation for Bloomberg Philanthropies' Asphalt Art Initiative grant to bring color and art to a city roadway. This grant program will fund asphalt art in locations such as:
- Intersections and crosswalks
- Plazas and sidewalks
- Utility boxes
- Traffic barriers
- Underpasses
The grant only accepts one submission per municipality, and Austin Transportation has been selected as the submission sponsor for the City of Austin. If you are interested in bringing your art to city roadways, submit your ideas to re-imagine a street space to the online survey.
Submissions will be received through Friday, April 9, at 5 p.m. and the winner will be selected and announced on Friday, April 16. For questions on the submission process, email Hannah Barron or call 512-974-9238.
