Community Engagement Focus Groups on Quality of Life for people with disabilities in Austin:

The City of Austin has partnered with Public Consulting Group LLC (PCG) to study the Quality of Life for people with disabilities in Austin.

PCG is seeking people to participate in focus groups so we can understand more about the disabled community who are living and/or working in Austin. Discussions from the focus groups will help us design a survey that captures the experience of people with disabilities living and/or working in Austin.

PCG is seeking people who will participate and talk about the general and broader experiences for most people with disabilities. We hope to have 6-9 people attend each focus group and would like the focus groups to represent different disabilities/needs. Focus groups registration will be capped so that robust conversations can occur with all attendees. These meetings may only take one hour; however, we have scheduled them for 90 minutes to allow plenty of time for discussion.

To allow input from all groups, we are asking that participants attend one focus group only. Please sign up for the focus group that best aligns with how you identify in the disability community and/or your availability.

Register for a focus group here: Focus Group Registration

If you have any questions, please send an email to: austindisabilityqol@pcgus.com

Austin Transportation seeking stories for Vision Zero!

The Vision Zero team has been working to connect with families and friends who have direct experiences with car crashes. We are asking your help to spread our call for stories from people impacted by crashes through your organization’s various social media or email channels and/or any of your personal connections in the community. In particular, we want to emphasize the need for stories from those in our community who are overrepresented or a growing share of traffic crash victims (Black / African American and Hispanic /Latinx communities) to ensure they have an opportunity to share their experiences.

Call for Community Involvement

As you know, APD Chief Brian Manley retired earlier this year. During Chief Manley's time:

Currently, to fill former Chief Manley's position, Interim Chief Joe Chacon has been appointed, and the department is beginning a process to seek out and hire a permanent chief. The process to hire Chief Manley was not an open process. After serving in the role on an interim basis, he was selected as the only candidate for interview, and community was only given an opportunity for input or questions after this decision had already been made.

This time around, APD would like to hear what characteristics are most important in the next APD Chief. You can provide feedback by completing the following community feedback questionnaire. You may also send an email to Community@AustinTexas.gov or call Austin 3-1-1.  All submissions will be taken into consideration.

Community Input Needed for City Budget!

It's imperative for community to weigh in on what they would like to see the City prioritize in the budget.

Community Input Needed for Givens Pool!

A new pool at Givens is at least two years away. No engineering analysis, no straightforward efforts to engage residents within the neighborhoods can alleviate decades long phobias, resentments, and discontent unless every individual realizes that this pool must, and will belong to everybody.

Each of us, and everyone must take a stand to resolve to build this pool together.  It is time for you to consider seriously answering the call to action. Your help is not only essential. At this crucial point it is a plain community imperative. Thank you for your commitment.

The Next Virtual Community Meeting #3 to present planning alternatives for the pool will be held on July 1, 2021 beginning at 5:30pm.

Please register, and attend this meeting:
